Biodegradable straw

Abstract

A biodegradable straw that is configured to maintain its structural integrity during immersion in a liquid longer than that of a conventional paper straw. The body of the present invention includes a first layer, a second layer and a third layer. The second layer is intermediate the first layer and the third layer. The body of the present invention is elongated and cylindrical in shape having a hollow passage therethrough suitable in diameter to transfer a liquid. The third layer is bonded to the outer surface of the second layer utilizing suitable techniques and provides complete coverage thereof. The inner surface of the second layer has bonded thereto the first layer wherein the first layer completely covers the inner surface of the second layer. The first layer and third layer in a preferred embodiment are manufactured from beeswax.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A biodegradable straw comprising:
 a body, said body being elongated and cylindrical in shape, said body having a first end and a second end, said body having a hollow passage extending therethrough, said body having a first layer, a second layer and a third layer, said second layer being intermediate said first layer and said third layer.   
     
     
         2 . The biodegradable straw as recited in  claim 1 , wherein said first layer is bonded to an inner surface of said second layer. 
     
     
         3 . The biodegradable straw as recited in  claim 2 , wherein said third layer is bonded to an outer surface of said second layer. 
     
     
         4 . The biodegradable straw as recited in  claim 3 , wherein said first layer provides complete coverage of said inner surface of said second layer. 
     
     
         5 . The biodegradable straw as recited in  claim 4 , wherein said second layer provides complete coverage of said outer surface of said second layer. 
     
     
         6 . The biodegradable straw as recited in  claim 5 , wherein said second layer is manufactured from paper. 
     
     
         7 . The biodegradable straw as recited in  claim 6 , wherein said first layer and said third layer are manufactured from beeswax. 
     
     
         8 . The biodegradable straw as recited in  claim 7 , wherein the first layer and third layer are formed so as to enclose said first end and said second end of said body so as to inhibit liquid contact with said second layer.
