Abstract

In some aspects, the techniques described herein relate to a method including: identifying, by a processor, an object included in a message addressed to a user; inserting, by the processor, an explicit feedback control in the message, the explicit feedback control associated with the object; delivering, by the processor, the message including the explicit feedback control to a client device of the user; and receiving, by the processor, feedback from the user in response to an interaction of the user with the explicit feedback control.

We claim: 
     
         1 . A method comprising:
 identifying, by a processor, an object included in a message addressed to a user;   inserting, by the processor, an explicit feedback control in the message, the explicit feedback control associated with the object;   transmitting, by the processor, the message including the explicit feedback control to a client device of the user; and   receiving, by the processor, feedback from the user in response to an interaction of the user with the explicit feedback control.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the object comprises one of text, audio, video, or graphical content. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein identifying an object include in a message comprises identifying the object using a named entity recognition (NER) routine. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the explicit feedback control comprises a positive feedback control button and a negative feedback control button. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising updating a feedback model based on the feedback from the user, the feedback model storing preferences of the user with respect to objects identified in messages addressed to the user. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , further comprising updating the explicit feedback control based on previous feedback of the user with respect to the object, the previous feedback stored in the feedback model. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 5 , further comprising:
 receiving, by the processor, a second message from a sender, the second message received prior to delivery to the user;   identifying, by the processor, a second object included in the second message addressed to a user;   reading, by the processor, a user preference for the second object using the feedback model; and   providing, by the processor, at least one suggestion regarding how to edit the second message to the sender.   
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 5 , further comprising:
 receiving, by the processor, a third message addressed to a user;   identifying, by the processor, a third object included in the third message;   reading, by the processor, a user preference for the third object using the feedback model; and   filtering, by the processor, the third message based on the user preference.   
     
     
         9 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium for tangibly storing computer program instructions capable of being executed by a computer processor, the computer program instructions defining steps of:
 identifying an object included in a message addressed to a user;   inserting an explicit feedback control in the message, the explicit feedback control associated with the object;   transmitting the message including the explicit feedback control to a client device of the user; and   receiving feedback from the user in response to an interaction of the user with the explicit feedback control.   
     
     
         10 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 9 , wherein identifying an object include in a message comprises identifying the object using a named entity recognition (NER) routine. 
     
     
         11 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 9 , wherein the explicit feedback control comprises a positive feedback control button and a negative feedback control button. 
     
     
         12 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 9 , the steps further comprising updating a feedback model based on the feedback from the user, the feedback model storing preferences of the user with respect to objects identified in messages addressed to the user. 
     
     
         13 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 12 , the steps further comprising updating the explicit feedback control based on previous feedback of the user with respect to the object, the previous feedback stored in the feedback model. 
     
     
         14 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 12 , the steps further comprising:
 receiving a second message from a sender, the second message received prior to delivery to the user;   identifying a second object included in the second message addressed to a user;   reading a user preference for the second object using the feedback model; and   providing at least one suggestion regarding how to edit the second message to the sender.   
     
     
         15 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 12 , the steps further comprising:
 receiving a third message addressed to a user;   identifying a third object included in the third message;   reading a user preference for the third object using the feedback model; and   filtering the third message based on the user preference.   
     
     
         16 . A device comprising:
 a processor; and   a storage medium for tangibly storing thereon logic for execution by the processor, the logic comprising instructions for:
 identifying an object included in a message addressed to a user; 
 inserting an explicit feedback control in the message, the explicit feedback control associated with the object; 
 transmitting the message including the explicit feedback control to a client device of the user; and 
 receiving feedback from the user in response to an interaction of the user with the explicit feedback control. 
   
     
     
         17 . The device of  claim 16 , the instructions further comprising updating a feedback model based on the feedback from the user, the feedback model storing preferences of the user with respect to objects identified in messages addressed to the user. 
     
     
         18 . The device of  claim 17 , the instructions further comprising updating the explicit feedback control based on previous feedback of the user with respect to the object, the previous feedback stored in the feedback model. 
     
     
         19 . The device of  claim 17 , the instructions further comprising:
 receiving a second message from a sender, the second message received prior to delivery to the user;   identifying, by the processor, a second object included in the second message addressed to a user;   reading, by the processor, a user preference for the second object using the feedback model; and   providing, by the processor, at least one suggestion regarding how to edit the second message to the sender.   
     
     
         20 . The device of  claim 17 , the instructions further comprising:
 receiving, by the processor, a third message addressed to a user;   identifying, by the processor, a third object included in the third message;   reading, by the processor, a user preference for the third object using the feedback model; and   filtering, by the processor, the third message based on the user preference.
