Abstract

A golf club head made out of multi-material is disclosed herein. More specifically, the golf club head in accordance with the present invention has at least a portion of the body of the golf club head that is further comprised out of a base layer and a lightweight cover layer. The base layer may have a plurality of cutouts to help reduce unnecessary mass and the lightweight cover layer may be made out of an ultra-lightweight material to further reduce the unnecessary mass.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A golf club head comprising:
 a striking face portion located at a frontal portion of said golf club head made from a first material; and   a body portion attached to an aft portion of said striking face portion made from a second material,   wherein said first material is a metallic material having a first density and said second material is a lightweight composite material having a second density, said second density is lighter than said first density, and   wherein a Center of Gravity location has a CG-B location between about 35 mm to about 45 mm, and wherein said second material has a density of less than about 2.7 g/cm 3 .   
     
     
         2 . The golf club head of  claim 1 , wherein said golf club head has a first peak frequency occurring greater than about 3,500 Hertz and less than about 4,500 Hertz. 
     
     
         3 . The golf club head of  claim 2 , wherein said first peak frequency occurs at greater than about 3,750 Hertz and less than about 4,250 Hertz. 
     
     
         4 . The golf club head of  claim 2 , wherein said first peak frequency occurs at about 4,000 Hertz. 
     
     
         5 . The golf club head of  claim 1 , wherein said second material has a density of less than about 1.75 g/cm 3 . 
     
     
         6 . The golf club head of  claim 1 , wherein said second material has a density of less than about 1.50 g/cm 3 . 
     
     
         7 . The golf club head of  claim 1 , wherein said first material is a metallic material having a density of between about 4.0 g/cm 3  and about 4.7 g/cm 3 . 
     
     
         8 . The golf club head of  claim 1 , wherein said first material is a metallic material having a density of between about 4.1 g/cm 3  and about 4.6 g/cm 3 . 
     
     
         9 . The golf club head of  claim 1 , wherein said metallic material has a density of about 4.5 g/cm 3 . 
     
     
         10 . A golf club head comprising:
 a striking face portion located at a frontal portion of said golf club head made from a first material;   a body portion attached to an aft portion of said striking face portion made from a second material, wherein said first material has a first density and said second material has a second density, said second density is lighter than said first density;   said frontal portion having a first mass, wherein said frontal portion is defined by a bifurcation line measured from a hosel bore axis and set rearward along a z-axis;   a rear toe portion having a second mass, wherein said rear toe portion is defined by a first trifurcation line measured from a geometric center of said striking face portion and offset a distance in a toe direction along an x-axis;   a rear heel portion having a third mass, wherein said rear heel portion is defined by a second trifurcation line measured from a geometric center of said striking face portion and offset a distance in a heel direction along said x-axis; and   a rear central portion having a fourth mass, wherein said rear central portion is defined as a portion between said rear toe portion and said rear heel portion;   wherein a ratio of said second mass in combination with said third mass to said fourth mass is less than about 1.   
     
     
         11 . The golf club head of  claim 10 , wherein the second mass is less than about 30 grams, wherein the third mass is less than about 20 grams, and wherein the fourth mass is greater than about 50 grams. 
     
     
         12 . The golf club head of  claim 10 , wherein the second mass is less than about 25 grams, wherein the third mass is less than about 17 grams, and wherein the fourth mass is greater than about 55 grams. 
     
     
         13 . The golf club head of  claim 10 , wherein the second mass is less than about 22 grams, wherein the third mass is less than about 15 grams, and wherein the fourth mass is greater than about 58 grams. 
     
     
         14 . The golf club head of  claim 10 , wherein said first material is a metallic material having a density of between about 4.1 g/cm 3  and about 4.6 g/cm 3 . 
     
     
         15 . The golf club head of  claim 14 , wherein said metallic material has a density of about 4.5 g/cm 3 . 
     
     
         16 . The golf club head of  claim 10 , wherein said golf club head has a first peak frequency occurring greater than about 3,500 Hertz and less than about 4,500 Hertz. 
     
     
         17 . A golf club head comprising:
 a striking face portion located at a frontal portion of said golf club head made from a first material; and   a body portion attached to an aft portion of said striking face portion further comprising:   a crown portion near a top of said golf club head made from a second material;
 wherein said crown portion wraps around a portion of a skirt portion of said golf club head onto a portion of a sole of said golf club head; 
   wherein said first material is a metallic material having a first density and said second material is a lightweight composite material having a second density, said second density is lighter than said first density.   
     
     
         18 . The golf club head of  claim 17 , wherein said golf club head has a first peak frequency occurring greater than about 3,500 Hertz and less than about 4,500 Hertz. 
     
     
         19 . The golf club head of  claim 17 , wherein the Center of Gravity location has a CG-B location between about 35 mm to about 45 mm. 
     
     
         20 . The golf club head of  claim 19 , wherein said golf club head has a Center of Gravity location having a CG-C location greater than about 30 mm.
