Abstract

Ranking of geographic information includes receiving information about geographic features, identifying documents based on the information, each document being associated with one of the geographic features, and generating a rank score for each document based on one or more properties of the geographic feature associated with the document.

         40 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
 obtaining, by a computing device comprising one or more processor devices, a plurality of rank scores for a respective plurality of geographic features;   selecting, by the computing device, a first geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features based on the rank score for the first geographic feature;   displaying, by the computing device, the first geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features within a map rendered via a mapping application executed by the computing device;   obtaining, by the computing device, an updated rank score for the first geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features; and   based on the updated rank score, displaying, by the computing device, a second geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features within the map rendered via the mapping application executed by the computing device.   
     
     
         41 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 40 , wherein the method further comprises:
 obtaining, by the computing device, a second updated rank score for the second geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features; and   based on the second updated rank score, displaying, by the computing device, the first geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features within the map rendered via the mapping application executed by the computing device.   
     
     
         42 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 40 , wherein obtaining the plurality of rank scores for the respective plurality of geographic features comprises:
 receiving, by the computing device, information associated with the first geographic feature from an information source;   identifying, by the computing device, a plurality of contexts related to the first geographic feature; and   generating, by the computing device, the rank score of the plurality of rank scores for the first geographic feature based on the plurality of contexts.   
     
     
         43 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 42 , wherein the plurality of contexts comprises at least one of tourism, housing, and investment.

The computer-implemented method of  claim 42 , wherein generating the rank score for the first geographic feature comprises generating, by the computing device, the rank score based on at least one of an area occupied by the geographic feature, a population density of the geographic feature, a total length of roads of the geographic feature, economic factors associated with the geographic feature, a infrastructure quality of the geographic feature, and/or a visual prominence of the geographic feature. 
     
     
         45 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 42 , wherein generating the rank score of the plurality of rank scores for the first geographic feature based on the plurality of contexts comprises:
 determining, by the computing device, a confidence score associated with the information source, the confidence score being higher for a more reliable source.   
     
     
         46 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 40 , wherein obtaining the plurality of rank scores for the respective plurality of geographic features comprises:
 receiving, by the computing device, the plurality of rank scores for the respective plurality of geographic features from a mapping service computing system associated with the mapping application executed by the computing device.   
     
     
         47 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
 receiving, by a computing system comprising one or more processor devices, route information from a computing device, wherein the route information is indicative of a route from a first location to a second location, and wherein a plurality of geographic featured located along the route;   respectively obtaining, by the computing system, a plurality of rank scores for the plurality of geographic features;   selecting, by the computing system, a first geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features based on the rank score for the first geographic feature;   providing, by the computing system to the computing device, instructions to display the first geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features within a map rendered via a mapping application executed by the computing device;   obtaining, by the computing system, an updated rank score for the first geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features; and   based on the updated rank score, providing, by the computing system to the computing device, instructions to display a second geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features within the map rendered via the mapping application executed by the computing device.   
     
     
         48 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 47 , wherein the method further comprises:
 obtaining, by the computing system, a second updated rank score for the second geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features; and   based on the second updated rank score, providing, by the computing system to the computing device, instructions to display the first geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features within the map rendered via the mapping application executed by the computing device.   
     
     
         49 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 47 , wherein obtaining the plurality of rank scores for the respective plurality of geographic features comprises:
 receiving, by the computing system, information associated with the first geographic feature from an information source;   identifying, by the computing system, a plurality of contexts related to the first geographic feature; and   generating, by the computing system, the rank score of the plurality of rank scores for the first geographic feature based on the plurality of contexts.   
     
     
         50 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 49 , wherein the plurality of contexts comprises at least one of tourism, housing, and investment.

The computer-implemented method of  claim 49 , wherein generating the rank score for the first geographic feature comprises generating, by the computing system, the rank score based on at least one of an area occupied by the geographic feature, a population density of the geographic feature, a total length of roads of the geographic feature, economic factors associated with the geographic feature, a infrastructure quality of the geographic feature, and/or a visual prominence of the geographic feature. 
     
     
         52 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 49 , wherein generating the rank score of the plurality of rank scores for the first geographic feature based on the plurality of contexts comprises:
 determining, by the computing system, a confidence score associated with the information source, the confidence score being higher for a more reliable source.   
     
     
         53 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium encoded with instructions that, when executed by a processor of a computing device, cause performance of operations comprising:
 obtaining a plurality of rank scores for a respective plurality of geographic features;   selecting a first geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features based on the rank score for the first geographic feature;   displaying the first geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features within a map rendered via a mapping application executed by the computing device;   obtaining an updated rank score for the first geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features; and   based on the updated rank score, displaying a second geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features within the map rendered via the mapping application executed by the computing device.   
     
     
         54 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 53 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 obtaining a second updated rank score for the second geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features; and   based on the second updated rank score, displaying the first geographic feature of the plurality of geographic features within the map rendered via the mapping application executed by the computing device.   
     
     
         55 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 53 , wherein obtaining the plurality of rank scores for the respective plurality of geographic features comprises:
 receiving information associated with the first geographic feature from an information source;   identifying a plurality of contexts related to the first geographic feature; and   generating the rank score of the plurality of rank scores for the first geographic feature based on the plurality of contexts.   
     
     
         56 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 55 , wherein the plurality of contexts comprises at least one of tourism, housing, and investment.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 55 , wherein generating the rank score for the first geographic feature comprises generating the rank score based on at least one of an area occupied by the geographic feature, a population density of the geographic feature, a total length of roads of the geographic feature, economic factors associated with the geographic feature, a infrastructure quality of the geographic feature, and/or a visual prominence of the geographic feature. 
     
     
         58 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 55 , wherein generating the rank score of the plurality of rank scores for the first geographic feature based on the plurality of contexts comprises:
 determining a confidence score associated with the information source, the confidence score being higher for a more reliable source.   
     
     
         59 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 53 , wherein obtaining the plurality of rank scores for the respective plurality of geographic features comprises:
 receiving the plurality of rank scores for the respective plurality of geographic features from a mapping service computing system associated with the mapping application executed by the computing device.
