Abstract

The present invention relates generally to compositions and methods for oxidizing or discoloring garments, such as denim. Another aspect relates to providing a cost-effective and environmentally safe alternative to hazardous bleaching agents, such as potassium permanganate.

         26 . A kit comprising potassium ferrate (VI), oxalic acid, and instructions for (1) applying potassium ferrate (VI) to a garment in an amount effective to permanently discolor the garment and (2) oxalic acid in an amount effective to remove metal oxide. 
     
     
         27 . The kit of  claim 26  further comprising sodium persulfate.
