Providing results to parameterless search queries
Abstract
In one implementation, a computer-implemented method includes receiving a parameterless search request, which was provided to a mobile computing device, for information that is relevant to a user of the mobile computing device. The method also includes, in response to the received parameterless search request, identifying with a digital computer system one or more results that are determined to be relevant to the user of the mobile computing device based upon a current context of the mobile computing device. The method further includes providing the results for display to a user of the mobile computing device.

2 . A method comprising:
receiving, by a computing system, from a mobile computing device, a parameterless request for information determined to be relevant to a user of the mobile computing device; responsive to receiving the parameterless request, identifying, by the computing system, based on a context of the mobile computing device, one or more results determined to be relevant to the user of the mobile computing device, wherein the context of the mobile computing device comprises one or more of: time/date information, geographic location information, calendar information, or device activity information, and wherein the one or more results that are relevant to the user of the mobile computing device are relevant to the context of the mobile computing device; and causing, by the computing system, the one or more results to be provided for presentation to the user via the mobile computing device.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the context of the mobile computing device comprises the time/date information.
4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the one or more results are relevant to one or more events within a threshold time of a current time of day or a current day of week.
5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the context of the mobile computing device comprises the geographic location information.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the one or more results are relevant to one or more entities within a threshold distance of a current location of the user.
7 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the context of the mobile computing device comprises the calendar information.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the one or more results are relevant to one or more calendar appointments associated with the user that are within a threshold time of a current time of day or a current day of week.
9 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the context of the mobile computing device comprises the device activity information.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the one or more results are relevant to current device activity or habitual device activity.
11 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the context of the mobile computing device comprises two or more of: the time/date information, the geographic location information, the calendar information, or the device activity information.
12 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
responsive to receiving the parameterless request, causing, by the computing system, the context of the mobile computing device to be determined.
13 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:
inferring, by the computing system, based on the context of the mobile computing device, one or more parameters for the parameterless request; and determining, by the computing system, based on the one or more parameters for the parameterless request, the one or more results.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein inferring the one or more parameters for the parameterless request comprises:
inferring, by the computing system, based on the context of the mobile computing device, one or more terms for the one or more parameters for the parameterless request.
15 . The method of claim 2 , wherein identifying the one or more results determined to be relevant to the user of the mobile computing device is further based on the context of the mobile computing device matching one or more previous contexts of the mobile computing device.
16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the one or more previous contexts of the mobile computing device have a threshold degree of similarity to the context of the mobile computing device.
17 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the one or more results are determined without the user specifying one or more parameters for the parameterless request.
18 . A computing system comprising:
one or more hardware processors; and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more hardware processors, the one or more hardware processors are operable to:
receive, from a mobile computing device, a parameterless request for information determined to be relevant to a user of the mobile computing device;
responsive to receiving the parameterless request, identify, based at least in part on a context of the mobile computing device, one or more results determined to be relevant to the user of the mobile computing device, wherein the context of the mobile computing device comprises one or more of: time/date information, geographic location information, calendar information, or device activity information, and wherein the one or more results that are relevant to the user of the mobile computing device are relevant to the context of the mobile computing device; and
send, to the mobile computing device, the one or more results.
19 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more hardware processors, cause the one or more hardware processors to perform operations, the operations comprising:
receiving, by a computing system, from a mobile computing device, a parameterless request for information determined to be relevant to a user of the mobile computing device; responsive to receiving the parameterless request, identifying, by the computing system, based at least in part on a context of the mobile computing device, one or more results determined to be relevant to the user of the mobile computing device, wherein the context of the mobile computing device comprises one or more of: time/date information, geographic location information, calendar information, or device activity information, and wherein the one or more results that are relevant to the user of the mobile computing device are relevant to the context of the mobile computing device; and causing, by the computing system, the one or more results to be provided for presentation to the user via the mobile computing device.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
