Abstract

An aerosol-generating system is provided, including: an aerosol-generating article configured to produce an inhalable aerosol upon heating, the article extending from a mouth end to a distal end and including: an aerosol-generating element, and a downstream section located downstream of the element, the downstream section extending from a downstream end of the element to the mouth end of the article, the downstream section including a hollow tubular element and a resistance-to-draw of the downstream section being less than about 10 mm H 2 O; and an aerosol-generating device having distal and mouth ends, the device including: a body extending from the distal to the mouth end, the body defining a device cavity to removably receive the article at the mouth end, and a heater to heat the element when the article is received within the device cavity, and to externally heat the article when received within the device.

         16 . An aerosol-generating system, comprising:
an aerosol-generating article configured to produce an inhalable aerosol upon heating, the aerosol-generating article extending from a mouth end to a distal end and comprising:
 an aerosol-generating element, and
a downstream section located downstream of the aerosol-generating element, the downstream section extending from a downstream end of the aerosol-generating element to the mouth end of the aerosol-generating article,
wherein the downstream section comprises a hollow tubular element and a resistance-to-draw of the downstream section is less than about 10 mm H 2 O; and
an aerosol-generating device having a distal end and a mouth end, the aerosol-generating device comprising:
a body extending from the distal end to the mouth end, the body defining a device cavity configured to removably receive the aerosol-generating article at the mouth end of the device, and
a heater configured to heat the aerosol-generating element when the aerosol-generating article is received within the device cavity,
wherein the heater is further configured to externally heat the aerosol-generating article when received within the aerosol-generating device.

17 . The aerosol-generating system according to claim 16 , wherein the hollow tubular element of the aerosol-generating article extends from the downstream end of the aerosol-generating element to the mouth end of the aerosol-generating article.

18 . The aerosol-generating system according to claim 16 , wherein the heater of the aerosol-generating device is further configured to circumscribe the aerosol-generating article when the aerosol-generating article is received within the device cavity.

19 . The aerosol-generating system according to claim 16 , wherein an operating temperature of the heater is between about 180 degrees Celsius and about 200 degrees Celsius.

20 . The aerosol-generating system according to claim 16 , wherein the downstream section comprises a ventilation zone at a location along the hollow tubular element.

21 . The aerosol-generating system according to claim 20 , wherein a distance between the ventilation zone and the mouth end of the aerosol-generating article is less than about 25 millimetres.
