Abstract

The disclosure relates to a 5G or 6G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate, i.e., a connected mode DRX enhancement, and handling a timer for an SDT procedure in a wireless communication system.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method performed by a terminal in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
 receiving, from a base station, a discontinuous reception (DRX) configuration and a downlink control information (DCI) with a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a power saving radio network temporary identifier (PS-RNTI) (DCP) monitoring configuration;   receiving, from the base station, a DCP associated with a DRX cycle based on the DRX configuration and the DCP monitoring configuration, wherein the DCP includes an indication to start a DRX on-duration timer;   identifying whether offset information is included in the DCP; and   in case that the offset information is included in the DCP, starting the DRX on-duration timer after an offset obtained from the offset information, from an end of a slot in which the DCP was received.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the offset includes at least one subframe and a DRX slot offset for the DRX cycle. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the offset includes a first offset in units of a subframe and a second offset in units of a slot. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein a DRX slot offset for the DRX cycle is set to the offset. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising, in case that the offset information is not included in the DCP, starting the DRX on-duration timer after a DRX slot offset for the DRX cycle from a beginning of a subframe. 
     
     
         6 . A method performed by a base station in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
 transmitting, to a terminal, a discontinuous reception (DRX) configuration and a downlink control information (DCI) with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by power saving radio network temporary identifier (PS-RNTI) (DCP) monitoring configuration; and   transmitting, to the terminal, a DCP associated with a DRX cycle based on the DRX configuration and the DCP monitoring configuration,   wherein the DCP includes an indication to start a DRX on-duration timer, and   wherein, in case that an offset information is included in the DCP, the DRX on-duration timer is started after an offset based on the offset information, from an end of a slot in which the DCP was transmitted.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 6 , wherein the offset includes at least one subframe and a DRX slot offset for the DRX cycle. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 6 , wherein the offset includes a first offset in units of a subframe and a second offset in units of a slot. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 6 , wherein a DRX slot offset for the DRX cycle is set to the offset. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 6 , wherein, in case that the offset information is not included in the DCP, the DRX on-duration timer is started after a DRX slot offset for the DRX cycle from a beginning of a subframe. 
     
     
         11 . A terminal in a wireless communication system, the terminal comprising:
 a transceiver; and   a controller coupled with the transceiver and configured to:
 receive, from a base station, a discontinuous reception (DRX) configuration and a downlink control information (DCI) with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by power saving radio network temporary identifier (PS-RNTI) (DCP) monitoring configuration, 
 receive, from the base station, a DCP associated with a DRX cycle based on the DRX configuration and the DCP monitoring configuration, wherein the DCP includes an indication to start a DRX on-duration timer, 
 identify whether offset information is included in the DCP, and 
 in case that the offset information is included in the DCP, start the DRX on-duration timer after an offset obtained from the offset information, from an end of a slot in which the DCP was received. 
   
     
     
         12 . The terminal of  claim 11 , wherein the offset includes at least one subframe and a DRX slot offset for the DRX cycle. 
     
     
         13 . The terminal of  claim 11 , wherein the offset includes a first offset in units of a subframe and a second offset in units of a slot. 
     
     
         14 . The terminal of  claim 11 , wherein a DRX slot offset for the DRX cycle is set to the offset. 
     
     
         15 . The terminal of  claim 11 , wherein the controller is further configured to, in case that the offset information is not included in the DCP, start the DRX on-duration timer after a DRX slot offset for the DRX cycle from a beginning of a subframe. 
     
     
         16 . A base station in a wireless communication system, the base station comprising:
 a transceiver; and   a controller coupled with the transceiver and configured to:
 transmit, to a terminal, a discontinuous reception (DRX) configuration and a downlink control information (DCI) with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by power saving radio network temporary identifier (PS-RNTI) (DCP) monitoring configuration, and 
 transmit, to the terminal, a DCP associated with a DRX cycle based on the DRX configuration and the DCP monitoring configuration, wherein the DCP includes an indication to start a DRX on-duration timer, 
 wherein, in case that an offset information is included in the DCP, the DRX on-duration timer is started after an offset based on the offset information, from an end of a slot in which the DCP was transmitted. 
   
     
     
         17 . The base station of  claim 16 , wherein the offset includes at least one subframe and a DRX slot offset for the DRX cycle. 
     
     
         18 . The base station of  claim 16 , wherein the offset includes a first offset in units of a subframe and a second offset in units of a slot. 
     
     
         19 . The base station of  claim 16 , wherein a DRX slot offset for the DRX cycle is set to the offset. 
     
     
         20 . The base station of  claim 16 , wherein, in case that the offset information is not included in the DCP, the DRX on-duration timer is started after a DRX slot offset for the DRX cycle from a beginning of a subframe.
