Abstract
A ceiling fan comprising a motor system. The motor system is mounted around a motor shaft. The motor shaft couples to a downrod for suspending the ceiling fan from a structure. The motor shaft and motor are encased by a motor housing. The motor housing comprises hub arms for mounting a plurality of blade holders. The blade holders coupled to a plurality of blades rotatable about the motor during operation.

1 . A ceiling fan assembly comprising:
a motor assembly having a rotating blade hub; and at least one fan blade mounted to the rotating blade hub having a blade span defined between a tip and a root, and having an airfoil cross section including a leading edge and a trailing edge defining a chord line extending therebetween, with the at least one fan blade comprising a pressure side surface and a suction side surface extending between the leading edge and trailing edge, wherein the pressure side surface has a first portion that bends inwardly toward a blade centerline and the pressure side surface never crosses the chord line.
2 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 1 wherein the leading edge is rounded and the trailing edge is v-shaped.
3 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 1 wherein the pressure side surface comprises a second portion that bends away from the blade centerline.
4 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 3 wherein the second portion is closer to the leading edge than the first portion.
5 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 4 wherein the second portion transitions to the first portion.
6 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 5 wherein the second portion begins at the leading edge.
7 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 6 wherein the first portion ends at the trailing edge.
8 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 3 wherein the second portion is convex and the first portion is concave.
9 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 1 wherein the chord line is between 6 and 8 inches and the blade span is between 6 and 12 feet.
10 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 9 wherein a rotational speed of the at least one blade is between 60 and 80 rpm.
11 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 9 wherein the chord line is 7 inches and the blade span of the at least one blade is about 12 feet.
12 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 11 wherein a rotational speed of the ceiling fan assembly is about 67 rpm.
13 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 1 wherein the pressure side surface and the suction side surface provide lift to the at least one blade for improving efficiency of the at least one blade.
14 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 1 wherein the chord line is between 6 and 8 inches.
15 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 14 wherein the chord line is about 7 inches.
16 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 1 wherein the blade span of the at least one blade is between 6 and 12 feet.
17 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 16 wherein the span is 9 feet.
18 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 1 wherein the blade has a non-symmetrical cross section.
19 . The ceiling fan assembly of claim 1 wherein the blade has a cross-section with a maximum thickness of 1 inch.
