Abstract
A method at an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Entity, the method including receiving a message from a second ITS entity, the message containing a safety assurance indication, and performing an action at the ITS entity based on the safety assurance indication. Further, an ITS Entity comprising a processor; and a communications subsystem, wherein the ITS Entity is configured to: receive a message from a second ITS entity, the message containing a safety assurance indication, and perform an action at the ITS entity based on the safety assurance indication.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method at an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Entity, the method comprising:
sending a request for an Authorization Ticket or an Authorization certificate to an Authorization Authority; receiving a response from the Authorization Authority, the response including the Authorization Ticket or the Authorization certificate containing a safety assurance indication comprising at least one of a functional safety of a transmitter of the ITS entity and a safety of an intended functionality of the ITS entity, the safety assurance indication providing that at least one of hardware and software at the ITS entity is certified to an indicated value; and sending a message to a second ITS entity, the message containing the safety assurance indication within the Authorization Ticket or Authorization certificate issued by the Authorization Authority.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the sending the request comprises providing service parameters for the ITS entity.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
when the safety assurance indication is regarding the functional safety of the transmitter of the ITS entity, the safety assurance indication is an aggregation of a functional safety assurance level indication and at least one of; a Safety of the Intended Function assurance level indication; and a cybersecurity assurance level indication; and when the safety assurance indication is regarding the safety of the intended functionality of the second ITS entity, the safety assurance indication is an aggregation of a Safety of the Intended Functionality assurance level indication and at least one of: the functional safety assurance level indication and a cybersecurity assurance level indication.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the safety assurance indication is associated with a specific application or service.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the safety assurance indication is encoded in octets for Service Specific Permissions (SSPs).
6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising sending additional messages to the second ITS entity, wherein only messages conveying safety information include the safety assurance indication.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein, when the safety assurance indication is within the Authorization ticket, the Authorization ticket includes at least one explicit field defining: the functional safety of a transmitter of the ITS entity; and the safety of an intended functionality of the ITS entity.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the explicit field has enumerated, discrete values.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiving comprises receiving a plurality of Authorization Tickets or Authorization certificates, wherein a subset of the Authorization Tickets or Authorization certificates contain the safety assurance indication and a subset of the Authorization Tickets or Authorization certificates do not contain the safety assurance indication.
10 . An Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Entity, the ITS Entity comprising:
a processor; and a communications subsystem, wherein the ITS Entity is configured to: send a request for an Authorization Ticket or an Authorization certificate to an Authorization Authority; receive a response from the Authorization Authority, the response including the Authorization Ticket or the Authorization certificate containing a safety assurance indication comprising at least one of a functional safety of a transmitter of the ITS entity and a safety of an intended functionality of the ITS entity, the safety assurance indication providing that at least one of hardware and software at the ITS entity is certified to an indicated value; and send a message to a second ITS entity, the message containing the safety assurance indication within the Authorization Ticket or Authorization certificate issued by the Authorization Authority.
11 . The ITS Entity of claim 10 , wherein the ITS Entity is configured to send the request by providing service parameters for the ITS entity.
12 . The ITS Entity of claim 10 , wherein:
when the safety assurance indication is regarding the functional safety of the transmitter of the ITS entity, the safety assurance indication is an aggregation of a functional safety assurance level indication and at least one of; a Safety of the Intended Functionality assurance level indication; and a cybersecurity assurance level indication; and when the safety assurance indication is regarding the safety of the intended functionality of the second ITS entity, the safety assurance indication is an aggregation of a Safety of the Intended Function assurance level indication and at least one of: the functional safety assurance level indication and a cybersecurity assurance level indication.
13 . The ITS Entity of claim 10 , wherein the safety assurance indication is associated with a specific application or service.
14 . The ITS Entity of claim 10 , wherein the safety assurance indication is encoded in octets for Service Specific Permissions (SSPs).
15 . The ITS Entity of claim 10 , wherein the ITS Entity is further configured to send additional messages to the second ITS entity, wherein only messages conveying safety information include the safety assurance indication.
16 . The ITS Entity of claim 10 , wherein, when the safety assurance indication is within the Authorization ticket, the Authorization ticket includes at least one explicit field defining: the functional safety of a transmitter of the ITS entity; and the safety of an intended functionality of the ITS entity.
17 . The ITS Entity of claim 16 , wherein the explicit field has enumerated, discrete values.
18 . The ITS Entity of claim 10 , wherein the ITS Entity is configured to receive a plurality of Authorization Tickets or Authorization certificates, wherein a subset of the Authorization Tickets or Authorization certificates contain the safety assurance indication and a subset of the Authorization Tickets or Authorization certificates do not contain the safety assurance indication.
19 . A non-transitory computer readable medium for storing instruction code, which, when executed by a processor of an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS)
Entity, cause the ITS Entity to:
send a request for an Authorization Ticket or an Authorization certificate to an Authorization Authority;
receive a response from the Authorization Authority, the response including the Authorization Ticket or the Authorization certificate containing a safety assurance indication comprising at least one of a functional safety of a transmitter of the ITS entity and a safety of an intended functionality of the ITS entity, the safety assurance indication providing that at least one of hardware and software at the ITS entity is certified to an indicated value; and
send a message to a second ITS entity, the message containing the safety assurance indication within the Authorization Ticket or Authorization certificate issued by the Authorization Authority.
20 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the instruction code further causes the ITS entity to send the request by providing service parameters for the ITS entity.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
