Systems and methods for generating smart responses for natural language queries
Abstract
Methods and systems are provided for generating a response to a natural language query. Specifically, the natural language query is received and a query template that corresponds to the natural language query is determined. One or more search results corresponding to the natural language query are retrieved. One or more attributes associated with a user are selected based on selection criteria. Based on those attributes, a response template previously assigned to the query template is identified. A response to the natural language query is generated based on the identified response template and the retrieved one or more search results.

51 . A method comprising:
receiving, using a computing device, an indication of a natural language input from a user equipment device; retrieving, using the computing device, one or more text items corresponding to the natural language input; selecting, using the computing device, a response output format from a plurality of response output formats for providing a response to the natural language input, wherein the selecting is based on whether the user equipment device is associated with an audio component and a display and wherein the plurality of response output formats comprises an audio-only output format and an audio-video output format; and transmitting, using the computing device, the response to the natural language input in the selected response output format and the one or more text items corresponding to the natural language input for display on the user equipment device.
52 . The method of claim 51 , further comprising:
selecting, using the computing device, the audio-only output format in response to determining that the user equipment device does not comprise the display.
53 . The method of claim 51 , further comprising:
selecting, using the computing device, a video output format in response to determining that the user equipment device does not comprise the audio component.
54 . The method of claim 51 , further comprising:
selecting, using the computing device, the audio-video output format in response to determining that the user equipment device comprises the audio component and the display.
55 . The method of claim 51 wherein the receiving the indication of the natural language input comprises receiving the natural language input through a microphone or a keyboard of the user equipment device.
56 . The method of claim 51 , further comprising:
identifying a user profile associated with the user equipment device; identifying the response output format that is indicated as preferred by the user profile; and transmitting the response to the natural language input based on the response output format that is indicated as preferred by the user profile.
57 . The method of claim 51 , further comprising:
in response to the receiving, identifying a user via a voice recognition technique; identifying the response output format that is indicated as preferred by a profile of the identified user; and transmitting the response to the natural language input based on the response output format that is indicated as preferred by the profile of the identified user.
58 . A system comprising:
input/output circuitry configured to:
receive an indication of a natural language input from a user equipment device;
control circuitry configured to:
retrieve one or more text items corresponding to the natural language input;
select a response output format from a plurality of response output formats for providing a response to the natural language input, wherein the selecting is based on whether the user equipment device is associated with an audio component and a display and wherein the plurality of response output formats comprises an audio-only output format and an audio-video output format; and
wherein the input/output circuitry is further configured to:
transmit the response to the natural language input in the selected response output format and the one or more text items corresponding to the natural language input for display on the user equipment device.
59 . The system of claim 58 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
select the audio-only output format in response to determining that the user equipment device does not comprise the display.
60 . The system of claim 58 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
select a video output format in response to determining that the user equipment device does not comprise the audio component.
61 . The system of claim 58 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
select the audio-video output format in response to determining that the user equipment device comprises the audio component and the display.
62 . The system of claim 58 , wherein the input/output circuitry is further configured to receive the indication of the natural language input by receiving the natural language input through a microphone or a keyboard of the user equipment device.
63 . The system of claim 58 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
identify a user profile associated with the user equipment device; identify the response output format that is indicated as preferred by the user profile; and wherein the input/output circuitry is further configured to:
transmit the response to the natural language input based on the response output format that is indicated as preferred by the user profile.
64 . The system of claim 58 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
in response to the receiving, identify a user via a voice recognition technique; identify the response output format that is indicated as preferred by a profile of the identified user; and wherein the input/output circuitry is further configured to:
transmit the response to the natural language input based on the response output format that is indicated as preferred by the profile of the identified user.
65 . A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising:
instructions that when executed by control circuitry cause input/output circuitry to:
receive an indication of a natural language input from a user equipment device;
instructions that when executed by the control circuitry cause the control circuitry to:
retrieve one or more text items corresponding to the natural language input;
select a response output format from a plurality of response output formats for providing a response to the natural language input, wherein the selecting is based on whether the user equipment device is associated with an audio component and a display and wherein the plurality of response output formats comprises an audio-only output format and an audio-video output format; and
wherein the instructions that when executed by the control circuitry cause the input/output circuitry to:
transmit the response to the natural language input in the selected response output format and the one or more text items corresponding to the natural language input for display on the user equipment device.
66 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 65 , further comprising instructions that when executed by the control circuitry cause the control circuitry to:
select the audio-only output format in response to determining that the user equipment device does not comprise the display.
67 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 65 , further comprising instructions that when executed by the control circuitry cause the control circuitry to:
select a video output format in response to determining that the user equipment device does not comprise the audio component.
68 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 65 , further comprising instructions that when executed by the control circuitry cause the control circuitry to:
select the audio-video output format in response to determining that the user equipment device comprises the audio component and the display.
69 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 65 , wherein the instructions that when executed by the control circuitry cause the input/output circuitry to receive the indication of the natural language input comprise instructions that cause the input/output circuitry to:
receive the natural language input through a microphone or a keyboard of the user equipment device.
70 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 65 , further comprising instructions that when executed by the control circuitry cause the control circuitry to:
