Abstract
A door opening device comprising a multi-directional head and a telescoping pole is provided. The multi-directional head allows the operator to choose the angle when opening the door and the telescoping pole allows the operator to remain at a distance away from the doorway while operating the doorknob. By allowing an operator to remain around a corner when opening a door, an armed and cornered individual is less able to harm the operator by shooting through the door.

exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A door opening device comprising:
a handle including a user interface having a grabber element and a rotation element; a telescoping pole, wherein the handle is mechanically coupled to a first end of the telescoping pole; a head including a grabber configured to transition between an open state and a closed state, wherein the head is mechanically coupled to a second end of the telescoping pole opposite the first end; a grabber actuator configured to cause the transition of the grabber between the open state and the closed state; a rotation actuator configured to rotate the grabber; and a battery operatively coupled to the user interface, the grabber actuator, and the rotation actuator, wherein the battery is configured to store electrical power and to supply the stored electrical power to the grabber actuator and the rotation actuator; wherein activation of the grabber element results in transitioning of the grabber between the open state and the closed state; and wherein activation of the rotation element results in rotation of the grabber.
2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein:
the telescoping pole includes an elbow at the second end and the grabber is mechanically coupled to the elbow; and the elbow is adjustable to reposition the grabber off of a central axis of the telescoping pole.
3 . The device of claim 2 , further comprising an elbow actuator configured to modulate a position of the grabber off of the central axis.
4 . The device of claim 3 , wherein the user interface additionally includes an elbow element and activation of the elbow controls modulation of the position of the grabber off of the central axis by the elbow actuator.
5 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the head includes at least one of the grabber actuator or the rotation actuator.
6 . The device of claim 5 , wherein the head and the handle are electrically coupled, and the grabber actuator and the rotation actuator are electrical actuators.
7 . The device of claim 1 , wherein:
the telescoping pole includes multiple sleeves having intersecting features; and the intersecting features of adjacent sleeves are configured to interact such that an orientation of the adjacent sleeves is maintained.
8 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the battery is located in the handle and the battery is electrically connected to the gripper actuator and the rotation actuator via an electrical cord traveling between the handle and the head in an interior of the telescoping pole.
9 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the gripper element is a button and the rotation element is another button separate from the button of the gripper element.
10 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the head includes a mount for physically attaching accessories to the head.
11 . The device of claim 10 , wherein the mount is a picatinny rail.
12 . A door opening device comprising:
a handle including a lever; a telescoping pole, wherein the handle is mechanically coupled to a first end of the telescoping pole; and a head including a grabber configured to transition between an open state and a closed state; wherein the head is mechanically coupled to a second end of the telescoping pole opposite the first end; and wherein the handle and the head are coupled, such that:
actuating the lever of the handle results in actuation of the grabber between the open and the closed state; and
rotating the handle results in a rotation of the grabber.
13 . The device of claim 12 , wherein:
the telescoping pole includes an elbow at the second end and the grabber is mechanically coupled to the elbow; and the elbow is adjustable to reposition the grabber off of a central axis of the pole.
14 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the handle and the head are mechanically coupled by a cable, such that a rotation of the handle results in a corresponding rotation of the head.
15 . The device of claim 14 , wherein a closing of the lever results in a tensioning of the cable that causes a closing of the grabber.
16 . The device of claim 14 , wherein the handle includes a reel configured to maintain tension in the cable.
17 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the head includes an actuator configured to cause the grabber to transition between the closed and the opened state.
18 . The device of claim 17 , wherein:
the head and the handle are electrically coupled and the actuator comprises an electrical actuator; or the head and the handle are pneumatically coupled and the actuator comprises a pneumatic actuator.
19 . The device of claim 12 , wherein:
the telescoping pole includes multiple sleeves having intersecting features; and the intersecting features of adjacent sleeves are configured to interact such that an orientation of the adjacent sleeves is maintained.
