Voice activated device for use with a voice-based digital assistant

Abstract

A voice activated device for interaction with a digital assistant is provided. The device comprises a housing, one or more processors, and memory, the memory coupled to the one or more processors and comprising instructions for automatically identifying and connecting to a digital assistant server. The device further comprises a power supply, a wireless network module, and a human-machine interface. The human-machine interface consists essentially of: at least one speaker, at least one microphone, an ADC coupled to the microphone, a DAC coupled to the at least one speaker, and zero or more additional components selected from the set consisting of: a touch-sensitive surface, one or more cameras, and one or more LEDs. The device is configured to act as an interface for speech communications between the user and a digital assistant of the user on the digital assistant server.

         2 . A voice activated device, comprising: one or more processors;
 a microphone;   a motion sensor;   one or more processors; and   memory storing one or more programs configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for:   while in a security mode, detect movement with the motion sensor;   in response to the detected movement, audibly request a passcode;   in accordance with a determination that the passcode is received within a predetermined amount of time and that the passcode in the received input matches a preset security code:
 disable the security mode; and 
   in accordance with a determination that the passcode is not received within the predetermined amount of time or a that the passcode in the received input does not match the preset security code:
 activate an alarm routine. 
   
     
     
         3 . The voice activated device of  claim 2 , wherein activating the alarm routine includes notifying emergency services. 
     
     
         4 . The voice activated device of  claim 2 , wherein activating the alarm routine includes playing an audible alarm. 
     
     
         5 . The voice activated device of  claim 2 , wherein the voice activated device is coupled to a plurality of user devices. 
     
     
         6 . The voice activated device of  claim 5 , wherein activating the alarm routine includes sending a notification to a coupled device. 
     
     
         7 . The voice activated device of  claim 5 , wherein activating the alarm routine includes locking at least a subset of the coupled devices. 
     
     
         8 . The voice activated device of  claim 2 , wherein detecting movement with the motion sensor includes detecting a person entering a room. 
     
     
         9 . The voice activated device of  claim 2 , wherein the voice activated device includes one or more light sensors and the one or more programs further include instructions for:
 while in a security mode, detect a change in light level.   
     
     
         10 . The voice activated device of  claim 9 , wherein detecting the change in light level includes detecting an increase in light level above a predefined threshold. 
     
     
         11 . The voice activated device of  claim 9 , wherein detecting the change in light level includes detecting a decrease in light level below a predefined threshold. 
     
     
         12 . The voice activated device of  claim 9 , wherein the one or more programs further include instructions for:
 in response to the change in light level, audibly request the passcode.   
     
     
         13 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs including instructions, which when executed by one or more processors of a voice activated device, cause the voice activated device to:
 while in a security mode, detect movement with a motion sensor;   in response to the detected movement, audibly request a passcode;   in accordance with a determination that the passcode is received within a predetermined amount of time and that the passcode in the received input matches a preset security code:
 disable the security mode; and 
   in accordance with a determination that the passcode is not received within the predetermined amount of time or a that the passcode in the received input does not match the preset security code:
 activate an alarm routine. 
   
     
     
         14 . A method comprising:
 at a voice activated device with a microphone and a motion sensor:
 while in a security mode, detecting movement with the motion sensor; 
 in response to the detected movement, audibly requesting a passcode; 
 in accordance with a determination that the passcode is received within a predetermined amount of time and that the passcode in the received input matches a preset security code:
 disabling the security mode; and 
 
 in accordance with a determination that the passcode is not received within the predetermined amount of time or a that the passcode in the received input does not match the preset security code:
 activating an alarm routine.
