Universal Medical Gas Delivery System
Abstract
A first source of medical gas has a generally cylindrical male outlet with a cylindrical bore and a threaded outer cylindrical surface. A flexible cylindrical elastomeric medical gas tubing has an input end with a bushing making a flush abutment with the male outlet at the output orifice. An output end attaches to any of a plurality of medical gas utilizing devices, but preferably with a dampening disperser held in position in the space in the vicinity of a patient's nose and mouth. An annular flange of the input end bushing resides within a central cylindrical bored out region extending through the first end and nearly to the second end of a rotatable connector forming an interior surface of a connector with threads coupling with the threads of the male outlet. The second end is an annular abutment against the annular flange holding the input end tubing bushing against the outlet source and providing an airtight coupling. A gripping means is on the exterior surface of the connector.

23 . A medical gas delivery system comprising:
a connector including a first opening, a second opening opposite the first opening, and a bore positioned between the first opening and the second opening; a bushing including a first flange that is positioned within the bore of the connector, the first flange being configured to engage with the connector to prevent the bushing from being separated from the connector; wherein the connector is rotatable about the bushing; and wherein the gas delivery system is configured to be coupled to a plurality of different medical gas sources.
24 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the plurality of different medical gas sources include:
a first medical gas source including a male outlet having threads; and a second medical gas source that is a barbed outlet or a nipple outlet.
25 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the bore is a first bore;
wherein the bushing includes a second bore that is directed entirely through the bushing along a longitudinal axis of the bushing; wherein an interior surface of the connector at the bore has threads that are configured to threadingly engage with the male outlet of the first medical gas source; and wherein the nipple outlet or the barbed outlet of the second medical gas source is configured to be received within the second bore of the bushing.
26 . The system of claim 23 , wherein an end of the bushing is configured to be directly connected to a flexible tube.
27 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the bushing includes a semi-flexible material or a flexible material; and
wherein the connector includes a semi-flexible material or a flexible material.
28 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the bushing is configured to be slid to expose the bushing to couple the bushing to a nipple outlet of one of the plurality of different medical gas sources.
29 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the bushing includes a second flange and a track positioned between the first flange and the second flange;
wherein the connector is configured to rotate about the bushing at the track of the bushing.
30 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the bushing includes a second flange positioned outside of the bore of the connector;
wherein an end of the connector is positioned between the first flange and the second flange of the bushing.
31 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the plurality of different medical gas sources includes a first medical gas source including a male outlet having threads and an output orifice; and
wherein the bushing is configured to make a flush abutment with the male outlet at the output orifice.
32 . A medical gas delivery system comprising:
a connector including a first opening, a second opening opposite the first opening, and a bore positioned between the first opening and the second opening; a bushing including: a first flange positioned within the bore of the connector, the first flange being configured to engage with the connector to prevent the bushing from being separated from the connector; and a second flange positioned outside the connector, the second flange being configured to limit a distance the connector travels; and wherein the connector is rotatable about the bushing.
33 . The system of claim 32 , wherein an end of the bushing is configured to be directly connected to a flexible tube.
34 . The system of claim 32 , wherein the gas delivery system is configured to be coupled to a plurality of different medical gas sources.
35 . The system of claim 32 , wherein an engagement between an end of the connector and the first flange is configured to provide an airtight coupling when the connector is screwed onto a male outlet of a first medical gas source.
36 . The system of claim 32 , further comprising a seal positioned within the bore of the connector; and
wherein the seal is configured to prevent leak of gas between the connector and a medical gas source.
37 . The system of claim 32 , wherein the bushing includes a track between the first flange and the second flange;
wherein an end of the connector is positioned within the track and the connector is configured to rotate about the bushing at the track; and wherein the first flange and the second flange simultaneously block upward and downward sliding of the bushing.
38 . A medical gas delivery system comprising:
a connector including a first opening, a second opening opposite the first opening, and a bore positioned between the first opening and the second opening; a bushing including a first flange that is positioned within the bore of the connector, the first flange being configured to engage with the connector to prevent the bushing from being separated from the connector; wherein the connector is rotatable about the bushing; and wherein an end of the bushing is configured to be directly connected to a flexible tube.
39 . The system of claim 38 , further comprising the flexible tube directly connected to the end of the bushing.
40 . The system of claim 39 , further comprising:
a nasal cannula coupled to the flexible tube at an end of the flexible tube opposite the end of the flexible tube directly connected to the bushing; a nebulizer coupled to the flexible tube at an end of the flexible tube opposite the end of the flexible tube directly connected to the bushing; or a face mask coupled to the flexible tube at an end of the flexible tube opposite the end of the flexible tube directly connected to the bushing.
41 . The system of claim 38 , wherein the connector is a first connector, wherein the bore is a first bore, wherein the bushing is a first bushing, and further comprising:
a second connector including a third opening, a fourth opening opposite the third opening, and a second bore positioned between the third opening and the fourth opening; a second bushing including a second flange that is positioned within the second bore of the second connector, the second flange being configured to engage with the second connector to prevent the second bushing from being separated from the second connector; wherein the second connector is rotatable about the second bushing; and wherein the second bushing is configured to be directly connected to the flexible tube.
