Oxygen masks

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to an oxygen mask comprising: a mask body defining a cavity configured to be positioned over the mouth and nose of a patient, an oxygen port formed on the upper half of the mask body, an annular aperture formed on the mask body, and at least one vent port formed on the mask body, wherein each vent port is formed on the bottom half of the mask body in a manner that patient's exhaled gases are directed towards the vent port.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An oxygen mask comprising:
 a mask body defining a cavity configured to be positioned over the mouth and nose of a patient,   an oxygen port formed on the upper half of the mask body,   an annular aperture formed on the mask body, and   at least one vent port formed on the mask body, wherein each vent port is formed on the bottom half of the mask body in a manner that patient's exhaled gases are directed towards the vent port.   
     
     
         2 . The oxygen mask of  claim 1 , further comprising a protrusion formed in an inner-space of the mask body which partially separates the inner-space of the mask body into a nose portion and a mouth portion. 
     
     
         3 . The oxygen mask of  claim 2 , wherein the protrusion is configured to reduce the chance of air dilution of oxygen in the inner-space with gas exhaled from the patient's mouth. 
     
     
         4 . The oxygen mask of  claim 3 , wherein the mask comprises two vent ports. 
     
     
         5 . The oxygen mask of  claim 4 , wherein the mask body includes a first vent port on the left side of the mask body and a second vent port on the right side of the mask body. 
     
     
         6 . The oxygen mask of  claim 5 , further comprising:
 at least one nasal instrument port formed on the upper half of the mask body, and   a suction port formed between a nasal instrument port and a vent port.   
     
     
         7 . The oxygen mask of  claim 6 , further comprising:
 at least one slit formed on the bottom half of the mask body.   
     
     
         8 . The oxygen mask of  claim 1 , further comprising at least one recess formed on the mask body, wherein each recess is configured to allow an external oxygen source to directly access the patient's nostrils. 
     
     
         9 . The oxygen mask of  claim 8 , wherein the mask has two recesses. 
     
     
         10 . The oxygen mask of  claim 9 , wherein the oxygen port is coupled to a hose to allow oxygen to be directly delivered to the nose portion or to allow carbon dioxide to be directly sampled from the nose portion. 
     
     
         11 . The oxygen mask of  claim 10 , wherein each vent port is formed within three inches from the bottom-most point of the mask body. 
     
     
         12 . The oxygen mask of  claim 11 , wherein each vent port is formed within two inches from the bottom-most point of the mask body. 
     
     
         13 . The oxygen mask of  claim 12 , wherein the inner-space of the mask body is configured to store about 25 to about 100 cubic centimeters of oxygen when the oxygen mask is worn. 
     
     
         14 . The oxygen mask of  claim 13 , wherein the oxygen mask is configured to deliver about 95% to about 100% oxygen to the patient during the inhalation phase of the patient's breath. 
     
     
         15 . The oxygen mask of  claim 6 , further comprising an interface to inhibit an inner-space of the mask body from substantial contamination with room air when the oxygen mask is in patient, wherein the interface is selected from the group consisting of: cushion, padding, foam, and elastic. 
     
     
         16 . The oxygen mask of  claim 15 , wherein each vent port is configured to accommodate a filter. 
     
     
         17 . The oxygen mask of  claim 16 , wherein the hose is configured to deliver drugs and gases to the inner-space. 
     
     
         18 . The oxygen mask of  claim 17 , wherein the oxygen mask is configured to be used with a ventilator or anesthesia machine.
