Low ignition propensity cigarette paper and manufacture thereof
Abstract
A wrapper of a smoking article includes a base web and at least one transverse banded region. The banded region includes a first zone, a second zone and a third zone of add-on material. The second zone has about 25% to about 75% less add-on material than the first zone and the third zone. The banded region is about 5 mm to about 9 mm wide and the second zone is centrally located between the first zone and the third zone. The second zone includes a plurality of dots of the add-on material spaced from adjacent dots in the second zone by a distance greater than a distance between adjacent dots in the first zone and the third zone.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWe claim:
1 . A wrapper for a smoking article, the wrapper comprising:
a first layer having a first side and a second side, the first side opposing the second side; and a second layer on the first side of the first layer, the second layer including,
a first zone including a first amount of a first add-on material and having a first diffusivity, the first add-on material on the first side of the first layer being in a first pattern, and
a second zone including a second amount of a second add-on material and having a second diffusivity that is greater than the first diffusivity, the second add-on material on the first side of the first layer being in a second pattern different from the first pattern, and the second amount being 25% to 75% less than the first amount.
2 . The wrapper of claim 1 , wherein the first layer includes flax, wood pulp, cellulose fiber, or a combination thereof.
3 . The wrapper of claim 1 , wherein the first add-on material, the second add-on material, or both the first add-on material and the second add-on material includes an occluding agent.
4 . The wrapper of claim 3 , wherein the occluding agent includes starch, alginate, cellulose, gum, or any combination thereof.
5 . The wrapper of claim 1 , wherein the first add-on material, the second add-on material, or both the first add-on material and the second add-on material includes a filler material.
6 . The wrapper of claim 5 , wherein the filler material includes calcium carbonate.
7 . The wrapper of claim 1 , wherein the first add-on material, the second add-on material, or both the first add-on material and the second add-on material includes an anti-wrinkling agent.
8 . The wrapper of claim 7 , wherein the anti-wrinkling agent includes 1,2-propylene glycol, propylene glycol, glycerin, starch plasticizing agents, or any combination thereof.
9 . The wrapper of claim 1 , wherein the first pattern includes a plurality of first dots, at least a portion of each first dot of the plurality of first dots touching a portion of another first dot of the plurality of first dots.
10 . The wrapper of claim 9 , wherein the second pattern includes a plurality of second dots, each second dot of the plurality of second dots being discrete and discontinuous.
11 . The wrapper of claim 10 , wherein at least a portion of the plurality of second dots are hexagonal.
12 . The wrapper of claim 9 , wherein each of the plurality of first dots has a larger average dimension than each of the plurality of second dots.
13 . The wrapper of claim 1 , wherein the first diffusivity is between 0 and 0.1 cm/sec.
14. The wrapper of claim 1 , wherein the second diffusivity is between 0.1 cm/sec and 0.4 cm/sec.
15 . The wrapper of claim 1 , wherein the wrapper further includes a third zone, the third zone being the same as the first zone, the second zone between the first zone and the third zone.
16 . The wrapper of claim 1 , wherein the wrapper further includes a third zone, the third zone including a third add-on material, the third add-on material on the first side of the first layer in a third pattern that is different from the second pattern.
17 . The wrapper of claim 1 , wherein the wrapper further includes a third layer on the second side of the first layer, the third layer including one or more zones having one or more different patterns.
18 . The wrapper of claim 1 , wherein the second layer has a permeability between 0 CORESTA and 12 CORESTA, and the first layer has a permeability greater than 60 CORESTA.
19 . The wrapper of claim 1 , wherein the first zone has a greater basis weight in grams per square meter than the second zone.
20 . The wrapper of claim 19 , wherein a basis weight in grams per square meter of the first zone is at least twice a basis weight in grams per square meter of the second zone.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
