Abstract

A portable fan assembly. The fan assembly includes a motor, a shaft rotatably driven by the motor and a plurality of fan blades coupled to the shaft and rotatable with the shaft. The fan assembly further includes a mounting mechanism that is configured to releasably mount the fan to a non-upwardly facing, horizontal flat surface without requiring modification of the surface.

I claim:

         1 . A portable fan assembly comprising:
a motor; a shaft rotatably driven by the motor; a plurality of fan blades coupled to the shaft and rotatable with the shaft; and a mounting mechanism configured to releasably mount the fan to a flat surface.

2 . The fan according to claim 1 , wherein the mounting mechanism is configured to releasably mount the fan to at least one of a vertical, oblique or lower horizontal surface.

3 . The fan according to claim 1 , wherein the mounting mechanism is configured to releasably mount the fan to the surface without requiring modification of the surface.

4 . The fan according to claim 1 , wherein the mounting mechanism is a non-clamping variety of mounting mechanism.

5 . The fan according to claim 1 , wherein the mounting mechanism is a vacuum mounting system.

6 . The fan according to claim 1 , wherein the mounting mechanism includes at least one suction cup.

7 . The fan according to claim 1 , wherein the mounting mechanism includes an adhesive material.

8 . The fan according to claim 1 , wherein the mounting mechanism includes an adhesive strip or adhesive pad.

9 . The fan according to claim 1 , wherein the mounting mechanism includes a plurality of suction cups spaced about an axis of rotation of the motor.

10 . The fan according to claim 1 , wherein the mounting mechanism includes a plurality of suction cups spaced about an axis of rotation of the fan blades.

11 . The fan according to claim 10 , wherein the plurality of suction cups are equidistantly spaced about the axis of rotation of the fan blades.

12 . The fan according to claim 1 , wherein the mounting mechanism defines a mounting plane.

13 . The fan according to claim 1 , wherein the mounting mechanism includes a plurality of suction cups, the suction cups defining a mounting plane.

14 . The fan according to claim 13 , wherein the fan blades are rotatable about an axis of rotation and the axis of rotation is substantially perpendicular to the mounting plane.

15 . The fan according to claim 13 , wherein the fan blades are rotatable in a plane substantially parallel to the mounting plane.

16 . The fan according to claim 13 , wherein the fan blades are rotatable about an axis of rotation and the axis of rotation is adjustable relative to the mounting plane.

         17 . A portable fan assembly comprising;
a motor; a shaft rotatably driven by the motor; a plurality of fan blades coupled to the shaft and rotatable with the shaft; and a mounting mechanism configured to releasably mount the fan to a non-upwardly facing, horizontal flat surface without requiring modification of the surface.
