Abstract

An apparatus of a user equipment (UE) comprises one or more baseband processors to process a message received from a Fifth Generation (5G) NodeB (gNB) to perform one or more measurements in one or more target frequency layers, and for each of the one or more target frequency layers, to divide one or more other frequency layers into one of three categories comprising fully overlapped frequency layers, partially overlapped frequency layers, and non-overlapped frequency layers. The apparatus includes a memory to store the message.

21 . A processor of a base station configured to perform operations, the operations comprising:
configuring a user equipment (UE) with one or more deactivated measurement gap (MG) patterns, wherein a first MG pattern of the one or more deactivated MG patterns comprises an MG repetition period (MGRP) of 20 milliseconds (ms) with an MG length (MGL) of 6 ms for inter-radio access technology (inter-RAT) measurement, wherein the inter-RAT measurement uses an MG occasion every 40 or 80 ms and other MG occasions are used for fifth generation (5G) new radio (NR) measurements; and transmitting an indication to the UE to activate one or more MG occasions or deactivate one or more MG occasions for the first MG pattern.

22 . The processor of claim 21 , wherein a deactivated MG pattern comprises a MG pattern maintained at the UE that is not applied by the UE unless one or more MG occasions in the deactivated MG pattern are activated by the base station.

23 . The processor of claim 21 , wherein during a deactivated MG occasion, the UE is configured to exchange scheduled signals with a current serving cell.

24 . The processor of claim 21 , wherein the indication is provided in downlink control information (DCI).

25 . The processor of claim 21 , wherein the indication is provided in medium access control (MAC) control element (CE).

26 . The processor of claim 21 , wherein the indication is provided in radio resource control (RRC) signaling.

27 . The processor of claim 21 , wherein a predefined gap sharing table is used to differentiate gap sharing percentages for inter-frequency measurement object (MO) and inter-RAT MO.

28 . The processor of claim 27 , the operations further comprising:
transmitting a parameter to the UE, the parameter mapped to the predefined measurement gap sharing table and configured to indicate a percentage of time to be used for the inter-RAT MO and a percentage of time to be used for the inter-RAT MO.

29 . The processor of claim 28 , wherein the parameter is provided in radio resource control (RRC) signaling.

30 . The processor of claim 21 , wherein the UE is configured with dual connectivity (DC).

         31 . A base station, comprising:
a transceiver configured to communicate with a network; and a processor communicatively coupled to the transceiver and configured to perform operations comprising:
configuring a user equipment (UE) with one or more deactivated measurement gap (MG) patterns, wherein a first MG pattern of the one or more deactivated MG patterns comprises an MG repetition period (MGRP) of 20 milliseconds (ms) with an MG length (MGL) of 6 ms for inter-radio access technology (inter-RAT) measurement, wherein the inter-RAT measurement uses an MG occasion every 40 or 80 ms and other MG occasions are used for fifth generation (5G) new radio (NR) measurements; and
transmitting an indication to the UE to activate one or more MG occasions or deactivate one or more MG occasions for the first MG pattern.

32 . The base station of claim 31 , wherein a deactivated MG pattern comprises a MG pattern maintained at the UE that is not applied by the UE unless one or more MG occasions in the deactivated MG pattern are activated by the base station.

33 . The base station of claim 31 , wherein during a deactivated MG occasion, the UE is configured to exchange scheduled signals with a current serving cell.

34 . The base station of claim 31 , wherein the indication is provided in downlink control information (DCI).

35 . The base station of claim 31 , wherein the indication is provided in medium access control (MAC) control element (CE).

36 . The base station of claim 31 , wherein the indication is provided in radio resource control (RRC) signaling.

37 . The base station of claim 31 , wherein a predefined gap sharing table is used to differentiate gap sharing percentages for inter-frequency measurement object (MO) and inter-RAT MO.
