Abstract

A method of migrating applications to a cloud-computing environment is disclosed. The method includes obtaining application configuration requirements for execution of an application, updating, by a storage system that stores data for the application, one or more volumes that store data for the application with the application configuration requirements for the application, and migrating the one or more volumes to a cloud-computing environment.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A method of migrating applications to a cloud-computing environment, the method comprising:
obtaining application configuration requirements for execution of an application; updating, by a storage system that stores data for the application, one or more volumes that store data for the application with the application configuration requirements for the application; and migrating the one or more volumes to a cloud-computing environment.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the storage system comprises an on-premises storage system.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the storage system comprises a cloud-based storage system executed in another cloud-computing environment.

4 . The method of claim 1 further comprising executing, based on the application configuration, an instance of the application in the cloud-computing environment.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein executing the instance of the application comprises:
providing the application configuration to an application container orchestration system in the cloud-computing environment; and executing, via the application container orchestration system, the application.

6 . The method of claim 4 further comprising determining to execute the instance of the application in response to a user input.

7 . The method of claim 4 further comprising determining to execute the instance of the application in response to detecting that another instance of the application executed in the storage system has reached a failure state.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the failure state comprises a failure to respond to a heartbeat message.

9 . The method of claim 4 further comprising determining to execute the application in response to one or more conditions in a migration policy being satisfied.

10 . The method of claim 1 further comprising selecting, based on a migration policy, the cloud-computing environment from a plurality of cloud-computing environments.

11 . An apparatus for migrating applications to a cloud-computing environment, the apparatus comprising a computer processor, a computer memory operatively coupled to the computer processor, the computer memory having disposed within it computer program instructions that, when executed by the computer processor, cause the apparatus to carry out the steps of:
obtaining application configuration requirements for execution of an application; updating, by a storage system that stores data for the application, one or more volumes that store data for the application with the application configuration requirements for the application; and migrating the one or more volumes to a cloud-computing environment.

12 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the storage system comprises an on-premises storage system.

13 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the storage system comprises a cloud-based storage system executed in another cloud-computing environment.

14 . The apparatus of claim 11 wherein the steps further comprise executing, based on the application configuration, an instance of the application in the cloud-computing environment.

15 . The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein executing the instance of the application comprises:
providing the application configuration to an application container orchestration system in the cloud-computing environment; and executing, via the application container orchestration system, the application.

16 . The apparatus of claim 14 wherein the steps further comprise determining to execute the instance of the application in response to a user input.

17 . The apparatus of claim 14 wherein the steps further comprise determining to execute the instance of the application in response to detecting that another instance of the application executed in the storage system has reached a failure state.

18 . The apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the failure state comprises a failure to respond to a heartbeat message.

19 . The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the steps further comprise determining to execute the application in response to one or more conditions in a migration policy being satisfied.

20 . A computer program product for migrating applications to a cloud-computing environment, the computer program product disposed upon a computer readable medium, the computer program product comprising computer program instructions that, when executed, cause a computer to carry out the steps of:
obtaining application configuration requirements for execution of an application; updating, by a storage system that stores data for the application, one or more volumes that store data for the application with the application configuration requirements for the application; and migrating the one or more volumes to a cloud-computing environment.
