Methods for determining and displaying a local page for a mobile device and systems thereof

Abstract

A method, according to one embodiment, includes receiving, by a mobile device, a request for a home page from a user; ascertaining, by the mobile device, a location of the mobile device; sending, by the mobile device, the location and a request for content for the home page; receiving, by the mobile device, content relating to the location from a system of a provider of the content via a wireless network; and outputting, by the mobile device, the content from the system of the provider on a display of the mobile device in a layout specified by the provider.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method, comprising:
 receiving, by a mobile device, a request for a home page from a user;   ascertaining, by the mobile device, a location of the mobile device;   sending, by the mobile device, the location and a request for content for the home page;   receiving, by the mobile device, content relating to the location from a system of a provider of the content via a wireless network; and   outputting, by the mobile device, the content from the system of the provider on a display of the mobile device in a layout specified by the provider.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the mobile device is a mobile telephone. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the content provider is GOOGLE. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the content includes information pertaining to the present location of the mobile device, without the user specifically requesting such information when requesting the home page. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the content includes nearby places selected based on the location of the mobile device. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the nearby places include restaurants. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , comprising receiving, from a user of the mobile device, a preference that causes the mobile device to receive local information based on the present location of the mobile device automatically. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , comprising receiving, from a user of the mobile device, a preference that causes the mobile device to receive local information based on the present location of the mobile device by default. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , comprising sending, by the mobile device, information to the system of the provider indicating that local information is desired in response to a change in location; and receiving, by the mobile device, content corresponding to the changed location. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein content is provided for locations only within a predetermined distance of the location of the mobile device. 
     
     
         11 . A computer program product comprising:
 a non-transitory computer usable medium having computer usable program code embodied therewith, the computer usable program code configured to perform the method of  claim 1 .   
     
     
         12 . A system, comprising:
 a processor; and   a computer usable medium, the computer usable medium having computer usable program code embodied therewith, which when executed by the processor causes the processor to perform the method of  claim 1 .   
     
     
         13 . A method, comprising:
 receiving, from a mobile device, at a system of a provider, a request for a home page from a user;   receiving, from the mobile device, a location of the mobile device; and   sending, from the system of the provider to the mobile device via a wireless network, content relating to the location for output on a display of the mobile device in a layout specified by the provider.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the content includes information pertaining to the present location of the mobile device, without the user specifically requesting such information when requesting the home page. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the content includes nearby places selected based on the location of the mobile device. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the nearby places include restaurants. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 13 , comprising receiving, from the mobile device, information at the system of the provider indicating that local information is desired in response to a change in location; and sending, to the mobile device, content corresponding to the changed location. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein content is provided for locations only within a predetermined distance of the location of the mobile device. 
     
     
         19 . A computer program product comprising:
 a non-transitory computer usable medium having computer usable program code embodied therewith, the computer usable program code configured to perform the method of  claim 13 .   
     
     
         20 . A system, comprising:
 a processor; and   a computer usable medium, the computer usable medium having computer usable program code embodied therewith, which when executed by the processor causes the processor to perform the method of  claim 13 .
