Abstract

Provided herein are compositions including peptide or nucleic acids encoding peptides and related methods for the treatment of angiogenic conditions such as cancer, vascular disorders such as cardiovascular disorders, and infectious disease.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising an effective amount of a liposome, a non-antibody scaffold or a nanoparticle comprising a peptide, or a fusion peptide having a heterologous peptide and the peptide, wherein the peptide consists of SEQ ID NO:4, SEQ ID NO:6, SEQ ID NO:8 SEQ ID NO:10, SEQ ID NO:11, SEQ ID NO:12, or SEQ ID NO:16 or a peptide having the length of SEQ ID NO:4, SEQ ID NO:6, SEQ ID NO:8 SEQ ID NO:10, SEQ ID NO:11, SEQ ID NO:12, or SEQ ID NO:16 and at least 85% amino acid sequence identity to the sequence of SEQ ID NO:4, SEQ ID NO:6, SEQ ID NO:8 SEQ ID NO:10, SEQ ID NO:12, or SEQ ID NO:16, which peptide induces angiogenesis.

2 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 which comprises the peptide.

3 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 which comprises the fusion peptide.

4 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 wherein the heterologous peptide is a cell targeting peptide or tissue targeting peptide.

5 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 4 , wherein the cell targeting peptide is RVG29, CDX, Angiopep-2, ApoB (3371-3409), ApoE (159-167)2, Peptide-22, TfR B6, T7, THR, Leptin 30, Apamin, ApOO, MiniAp-4, GSH, G23, g7, Tat(47-57), SynBI, Diketopiperazine, Phenylproline oligomer, PepH3, or PepNeg.

6 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 further comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

7 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 which comprises a liposome.

8 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 wherein the peptide is PEGylated.

9 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 wherein the peptide has 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, or 15 fewer amino acid residues relative to SEQ ID NO:4, SEQ ID NO:6, SEQ ID NO:8 SEQ ID NO:10, SEQ ID NO:11, SEQ ID NO:12, or SEQ ID NO:16.

10 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 wherein the peptide has at least 90% amino acid sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:4, SEQ ID NO:6, SEQ ID NO:8 SEQ ID NO:10, SEQ ID NO:11, SEQ ID NO:12, or SEQ ID NO:16.

11 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 wherein the peptide is a peptidomimetic.

12 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 wherein the peptide is cyclic or branched.

13 . A method to enhance angiogenesis in a mammal, comprising: administering to a mammal in need thereof an effective amount of the composition of claim 1 .

14 . The method of claim 13 wherein the mammal is a human.

15 . The method of claim 13 wherein the mammal has a vascular disease or condition, a circulatory disease or condition, a neurological disease, a wound, an endocrine or metabolic disease, a pulmonary disorder, a hypertensive disease, a respiratory disease, a glomerular disease, genitourinary system disease, a digestive system disease, an age-related disease, a common variable immunodeficiency or neonatal respiratory distress syndrome, preeclampsia or a congenital circulatory abnormality.

16 . The method of claim 15 wherein the circulatory disease or condition is a cardiovascular disease.

17 . The method of claim 16 wherein the cardiovascular disease is ischemic heart disease, CAD (coronary heart disease), heart failure, myocardial infarction, congenital heart block, cardiomyopathy, pericarditis, endocarditis, arrhythmia, or atrial fibrillation.

18 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising a peptide, wherein the peptide has the length of SEQ ID NO:4, SEQ ID NO:6, SEQ ID NO:8, SEQ ID NO:10, SEQ ID NO:11, SEQ ID NO:12, or SEQ ID NO:16, and at least 85% amino acid sequence identity to the sequence of SEQ ID NO:4, SEQ ID NO:6, SEQ ID NO:8, SEQ ID NO:10, SEQ ID NO:11, SEQ ID NO:12, or SEQ ID NO:16, wherein the peptide comprises at least one unnatural amino acid.
