Claims
Abstract
A device for moving burning materials around a fire pit includes a device handle and a device head having a first hook portion, a second hook portion and a substantially flat portion. The device handle is preferably made from a wood material, such as hickory wood, and the device head is preferably made from a durable metal material, such as tempered steel. The hook portions of the device are used for poking and moving burning materials (such as wood blocks) around the fire pit; and the substantially flat portion is used for shoveling and moving the burning materials.

1 . A device for moving burning materials around a fire pit, the device comprising:
a device handle including a handle shaft defining a first handle end opposite a second handle end, the second handle end defining a rear of the device; and a device head including a head shaft defining a first head end opposite a second head end, the second head end being attached about the first handle end of the device handle, the device head further including:
a first hook portion attached about a first side of the head shaft;
a second hook portion attached about a second side of the head shaft; and
a substantially flat portion attached about the first head end.
2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the first hook portion includes a first curved body having a first wide end tapering into a first pointed end, wherein the second hook portion includes a second curved body having a second wide end tapering into a second pointed end, and wherein the first wide end and the second wide end extend substantially perpendicular from the head shaft.
3 . The device of claim 2 , wherein one of the first pointed end and the second pointed end is orientated in a downward direction towards the rear of the device, and wherein another one of the first pointed end and the second pointed end is orientated in an upward direction towards a front of the device, the front of the device being opposite the rear of the device.
4 . The device of claim 3 , wherein the substantially flat portion includes a flat body having a first flat side opposite a second flat side and a shaft end opposite a tip end, the tip end terminating at the front of the device.
5 . The device of claim 4 , wherein the substantially flat portion further includes a third hook portion attached about a top surface of the flat body and a fourth hook portion attached about a bottom surface of the flat body.
6 . The device of claim 5 , wherein the first pointed end is located at a distance of between 3-4 inches from the first side of the head shaft, and wherein the second pointed end is located at a distance of between 3-4 inches from the second side of the head shaft.
7 . The device of claim 6 , wherein the substantially flat portion includes a width of 4 inches as measured from a furthest point of the first flat side and a furthest point of the second flat side, and wherein the substantially flat portion includes a length of 4 inches as measured from the first shaft end to the tip end.
8 . The device of claim 7 , wherein the substantially flat portion includes a substantially spade shape.
9 . The device of claim 8 , wherein the substantially flat portion includes a substantially triangle shape.
10 . The device of claim 9 , wherein one of the first flat side and the second flat side includes a half triangle shape, and wherein another one of the first flat side and the second flat side includes a half spade shape.
11 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising a sleeve covering a portion of the handle shaft and the head shaft, and wherein the sleeve is made from a substantially fire-resistant material.
12 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the substantially fire-resistant material is stainless steel.
13 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the device handle is made from a material having a substantially low thermal conductivity.
14 . The device of claim 13 , wherein the material having said substantially low thermal conductivity material is hickory wood.
15 . The device of claim 14 , wherein the device head is made from tempered steel.
16 . A device for moving burning materials around a fire pit, the device comprising:
a device handle including a handle shaft defining a first handle end opposite a second handle end, the second handle end defining a rear of the device, the device handle being made from a wood material; and a device head including a head shaft defining a first head end opposite a second head end, the second head end being inserted within the handle shaft at the first handle end, the device head being made from a metal material, the device head further including:
a first hook portion attached about a first side of the head shaft, the first hook portion including a first curved body having a first wide end tapering into a first pointed end;
a second hook portion attached about a second side of the head shaft, the second hook including a second curved body having a second wide end tapering into a second pointed end, wherein the first wide end and the second wide end extend substantially perpendicular from the head shaft, and wherein one of the first pointed end and the second pointed end is orientated in a downward direction towards the rear of the device, and wherein another one of the first pointed end and the second pointed end is orientated in an upward direction towards a front of the device, the front of the device being opposite the rear of the device; and
a substantially flat portion attached about the first head end, the substantially flat portion including a flat body having a first flat side opposite a second flat side and a shaft end opposite a tip end, the tip end terminating at the front of the device, the substantially flat portion further including a third hook portion attached about a top surface of the flat body and a fourth hook portion attached about a bottom surface of the flat body; and
a sleeve covering a portion of the handle shaft and the head shaft, the sleeve being made from a substantially fire-resistant material;
17 . The device of claim 16 , wherein the substantially flat portion includes a spade shape.
18 . The device of claim 17 , wherein the substantially flat portion includes a substantially triangle shape.
19 . The device of claim 18 , wherein one of the first flat side and the second flat side includes a half triangle shape and wherein another one of the first flat side and the second flat side includes a half spade shape.
20 . A method of using a device to move burning materials around a fire pit, the method comprising the steps of:
providing the device, the device including:
a device handle including a handle shaft defining a first handle end opposite a second handle end, the second handle end defining a rear of the device, the device handle being made from a material having a substantially low thermal conductivity; and
a device head including a head shaft defining a first head end opposite a second head end, the second head end being attached about the first handle end of the handle, the device head further including:
a first hook portion attached about a first side of the head shaft;
a second hook portion attached about a second side of the head shaft; and
a substantially flat portion attached about the first head end;
grasping the handle shaft about the second handle end; inserting the device head into the fire pit; selectively poking one or more burning materials with one of the first hook portion and the second hook portion; and selectively shoveling said one or more burning materials with the substantially flat portion.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
