Abstract

One or more embodiments of the disclosure provide systems and methods for providing media presentations to users of a media presentation system. A media presentation generally includes a plurality of media segments provided by multiple users of the media presentation system. In one or more embodiments, a user of the media presentation system may share a media presentation with a co-user. The media presentation system can provide a number of features to assist a user in sharing, filtering, and accessing media presentations.

Claims

What is claimed is:

         1 . A method comprising:
 identifying information associated with a first media segment received from a first client device associated with a first user; identifying information associated with one or more media segments received from one or more other client devices that are combined in a media presentation provided via a social networking system; determining that the first media segment and the one or more media segments are related based on comparing the information associated with the first media segment to the information associated with the one or more media segments; determining based on analytics associated with the first media segment that the first media segment meets a threshold condition; adding the first media segment to the media presentation to generate an updated media presentation based on first media segment being related to the one or more media segments and the first media segment meeting the threshold condition; and sharing the updated media presentation via the social networking system.

         2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining based on the analytics associated with the first media segment that the first media segment meets the threshold condition comprises determining that the first media segment has at least a threshold number of views.

         3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining based on the analytics associated with the first media segment that the first media segment meets the threshold condition comprises determining that the first media segment has at least a threshold number of likes.

         4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining based on the analytics associated with the first media segment that the first media segment meets the threshold condition comprises determining that the first media segment has less than a threshold age.

         5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining that the first media segment and the one or more media segments are related based on comparing the information associated with the first media segment to the information associated with the one or more media segments comprises determining that the first media segment and the one or more media segments share one or more of a hashtag or a location tag.

         6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining that the first media segment and the one or more media segments are related based on comparing the information associated with the first media segment to the information associated with the one or more media segments comprises determining that a particular person is present in the first media segment and the one or more media segments.

         7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining that the first media segment and the one or more media segments are related based on comparing the information associated with the first media segment to the information associated with the one or more media segments comprises:
 determining that the first media segment and one or more media segments are related based on determining that a first user that created the first media segment and a second user that created the one or more media segments are connected via the social networking system; and determining that the first media segment and the one or more media segments are related based on determining that a minimum number of commonalities match between the information associated with the first media segment and the information associated with the one or more media segments.

         8 . A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions thereon that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:
 identifying information associated with a first media segment received from a first client device associated with a first user; identifying information associated with one or more media segments received from one or more other client devices that are combined in a media presentation provided via a social networking system; determining that the first media segment and the one or more media segments are related based on comparing the information associated with the first media segment to the information associated with the one or more media segments; determining based on analytics associated with the first media segment that the first media segment meets a threshold condition; adding the first media segment to the media presentation to generate an updated media presentation based on first media segment being related to the one or more media segments and the first media segment meeting the threshold condition; and sharing the updated media presentation via the social networking system.

         9 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , wherein determining that the first media segment and the one or more media segments are related based on comparing the information associated with the first media segment to the information associated with the one or more media segments comprises determining a plurality of matching annotations between the first media segment and the one or more media segments.

         10 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the information associated with the first media segment comprises one or more of: an identity of a first user of the social networking system that created the first media segment, a geographic location corresponding to a capture location of the first media segment, a timestamp indicating a capture time of the first media segment, a description of the first media segment, hashtags applied to the first media segment, or tags representing one or more users of the social networking system that participate in the first media segment.

         11 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein determining that the first media segment and the one or more media segments are related based on comparing the information associated with the first media segment to the information associated with the one or more media segments comprises determining that a minimum number of commonalities match between the information associated with the first media segment and the information associated with the one or more media segments.

         12 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 identifying a media segment to remove from the updated media presentation; filtering the media segment from the updated media presentation to create a filtered media presentation; and sharing the filtered media presentation via the social networking system.

         13 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , wherein identifying the media segment to remove from the updated media presentation comprises determining that a threshold amount of time has passed since the media segment was added to the media presentation.

         14 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , wherein identifying the media segment to remove from the updated media presentation comprises determining that the media segment has a total number of user likes that is less than a threshold number of user likes.

         15 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of  claim 12 , wherein:
 the operations further comprise receiving a request to filter the updated media presentation based on one or more tags; and wherein identifying the media segment to remove from the updated media presentation comprises determining that the media segment is not associated with the one or more tags.

         16 . A system comprising:
 at least one memory device; and at least one processor coupled to the at least one memory device, the at least one processor configured to cause the system to:
 identify information associated with a first media segment received from a first client device associated with a first user;
 identify information associated with one or more media segments received from one or more other client devices that are combined in a media presentation provided via a social networking system;
 determine that the first media segment and the one or more media segments are related based on comparing the information associated with the first media segment to the information associated with the one or more media segments;
 determine based on analytics associated with the first media segment that the first media segment meets a threshold condition;
 add the first media segment to the media presentation to generate an updated media presentation based on first media segment being related to the one or more media segments and the first media segment meeting the threshold condition; and
 share the updated media presentation via the social networking system.

         17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the at least one processor is configured to cause the system to determine based on the analytics associated with the first media segment that the first media segment meets the threshold condition by determining that the first media segment has at least a threshold number of views.

         18 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the at least one processor is configured to cause the system to determine based on the analytics associated with the first media segment that the first media segment meets the threshold condition by determining that the first media segment has at least a threshold number of likes.
