Abstract

Disclosed are various embodiments for scalable notification deliveries in computing environments. A request to transmit at least one notification into the firewalled environment received by a notification service executed using an off-premises node that is outside a firewalled environment. A preexisting notification multiplexing channel is identified. The preexisting notification multiplexing channel is between the off-premises node and an on-premises node in the firewalled environment. A notification is transmitted into the firewalled environment using the preexisting notification multiplexing channel.

Therefore, the following is claimed: 
     
         1 . A system comprising:
 at least one computing device comprising at least one processor and at least one data store;   machine readable instructions stored in the at least one data store, wherein the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one computing device to at least:
 receive, by a notification service executed using an off-premises node that is outside a firewalled environment comprising a plurality of on-premises nodes, a request to transmit at least one notification into the firewalled environment; 
 identify, by the notification service, a preexisting notification multiplexing channel between: the off-premises node, and one of the plurality of on-premises nodes; and 
 transmit, by the notification service, the at least one notification using the preexisting notification multiplexing channel. 
   
     
     
         2 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the notification multiplexing channel utilizes a Web Socket protocol. 
     
     
         3 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein a firewall prevents calling, from the Internet, the on-premises nodes within the firewalled environment. 
     
     
         4 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the request to transmit the at least one notification comprises at least one of: a node identifier for a target on-premises node, and a user identifier. 
     
     
         5 . The system of  claim 4 , wherein the notification service filters notifications based at least in part on a security context for the user identifier. 
     
     
         6 . The system of  claim 4 , wherein the preexisting notification multiplexing channel is between: the off-premises node, and a particular on-premises node, and the particular on-premises node provides the at least one notification to at least one of: the target on-premises node, and a particular client device identified based at least in part on the user identifier. 
     
     
         7 . The system of  claim 6 , wherein the particular on-premises node provides the at least one notification using a session-based notification channel that is different from the preexisting notification multiplexing channel. 
     
     
         8 . A method comprising:
 receiving, by a notification service executed using an off-premises node that is outside a firewalled environment comprising a plurality of on-premises nodes, a request to transmit at least one notification into the firewalled environment;   identifying, by the notification service, a preexisting notification multiplexing channel between: the off-premises node, and one of the plurality of on-premises nodes; and   transmitting, by the notification service, the at least one notification using the preexisting notification multiplexing channel.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the notification multiplexing channel utilizes a Web Socket protocol. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein a firewall prevents calling, from the Internet, the on-premises nodes within the firewalled environment. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the request to transmit the at least one notification comprises at least one of: a node identifier for a target on-premises node, and a user identifier. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein the notification service filters notifications based at least in part on a security context for the user identifier. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein the preexisting notification multiplexing channel is between: the off-premises node, and a particular on-premises node, and the particular on-premises node provides the at least one notification to at least one of: the target on-premises node, and a particular client device identified based at least in part on the user identifier. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the particular on-premises node provides the at least one notification using a session-based notification channel that is different from the preexisting notification multiplexing channel. 
     
     
         15 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising machine readable instructions, wherein the instructions, when executed by at least one processor, cause at least one computing device to at least:
 receive, by a notification service executed using an off-premises node that is outside a firewalled environment comprising a plurality of on-premises nodes, a request to transmit at least one notification into the firewalled environment;   identify, by the notification service, a preexisting notification multiplexing channel between: the off-premises node, and one of the plurality of on-premises nodes; and   transmit, by the notification service, the at least one notification using the preexisting notification multiplexing channel.   
     
     
         16 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein the notification multiplexing channel utilizes a Web Socket protocol. 
     
     
         17 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein a firewall prevents calling, from the Internet, the on-premises nodes within the firewalled environment. 
     
     
         18 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein the request to transmit the at least one notification comprises at least one of: a node identifier for a target on-premises node, and a user identifier. 
     
     
         19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 18 , wherein the preexisting notification multiplexing channel is between: the off-premises node, and a particular on-premises node, and the particular on-premises node provides the at least one notification to at least one of: the target on-premises node, and a particular client device identified based at least in part on the user identifier. 
     
     
         20 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 19 , wherein the particular on-premises node provides the at least one notification using a session-based notification channel that is different from the preexisting notification multiplexing channel.
