Stemless shoulder implant with fixation components
Abstract
An implant assembly may include a first component having a proximal plate and a distal portion extending from the proximal plate, a first screw of a first type, and a first screw of a second type. The proximal plate may have a proximal face, a distal face configured to abut bone, and a periphery. The proximal plate may define a plurality of apertures. An opening may be defined by the proximal plate and extend through the distal portion. Each of the plurality of apertures may be disposed between the opening and the periphery. The first screw of the first type may be sized and configured to be received in the opening and engage bone. The first screw of the second type may be sized and configured to be received in at least one of the plurality of apertures.

1 . A shoulder implant assembly comprising:
a first component including:
a first portion including a plate having a first face, a second face disposed on an opposite side of the plate as the first face and configured to abut bone, and a periphery, the plate defining a plurality of apertures, and
a second portion extending from the second face of the plate to an end, the second portion having a width dimension that is less than a width dimension of the periphery of the first portion,
wherein the first component defines an opening that extends through the first portion and the second portion, and wherein each aperture of the plurality of apertures is disposed between the opening and the periphery; a first screw of a first type sized and configured to be received in the opening and extend outwardly from the end of the second portion and to engage bone when disposed in the opening; and a first screw of a second type sized and configured to be received in at least one of the plurality of apertures defined by the plate.
2 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first screw of the first type is a central screw and has at least one dimension that is different from at least one dimension of the first screw of the second type.
3 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of screws of the second type.
4 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first screw of the second type includes a spherical head such that the first screw of the second type may be received in at least one of the plurality of apertures in a plurality of orientations.
5 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 1 , wherein the second portion of the first component includes a plurality of arms extending radially outward about the opening.
6 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 5 , wherein the second portion includes a concave structure extending from the surface of the plate, the second portion defining at least a portion of the opening and the plurality of arms extending from the concave structure.
7 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first portion of the first component is formed integrally with the second portion of the first component.
8 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 1 , wherein a plurality of projections extend from the second face of the plate, the plurality of projections disposed between the opening and the periphery and configured to engage bone to prevent rotation of the plate when the first component is implanted in bone.
9 . A shoulder implant assembly, comprising:
a first component including:
a plate having a first face, a second face configured to abut bone, and a periphery, the plate defining a central aperture and a plurality of anchor features surrounding the central aperture, and
a plurality of arms extending from the second face of the plate and terminating at an end, the plurality of arms tapering along their length such that a width dimension of the plurality of arms adjacent to the plate is greater than a width dimension of the plurality of arms at the end,
wherein the central opening is sized and configured to receive a projection for coupling an articular component to the first component, and each anchor feature of the plurality of anchor features is sized and configured to receive a suture therein.
10 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 9 , wherein the proximal plate defines a plurality of apertures that extend from the first face to the second face.
11 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 10 , wherein a concave structure extends from the second surface of the plate and defines at least a portion of the central opening, and wherein the plurality of arms extend outwardly from the concave structure.
12 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 11 , further comprising at least one screw sized and configured to be received in at least one of the central opening or at least one aperture of the plurality of apertures.
13 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 11 , further comprising:
a first screw having a first length and a first thread; and at least one second screw having a second length and a second thread.
14 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 13 , wherein the first length is different from the second length.
15 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 13 , wherein the first thread is different from and the second thread.
16 . A shoulder implant assembly, comprising:
a plate for coupling to a prepared surface of a bone, the plate comprising:
a first face,
a second face disposed on an opposite side of the plate as the first face, and
a circular periphery, wherein:
the plate defines an opening and a plurality of apertures,
the opening sized and configured to receive a projection for coupling an articular component to the plate, and
each aperture of the plurality of apertures is disposed between the opening and the circular periphery;
a first screw of a first type having a first thread and a first length, the first screw of the first type sized and configured to be received in the opening; and a plurality of screws of a second type, each screw of the second type of the plurality of screws of the second type having a second thread, a second length, and being sized and configured to be received in each aperture of the plurality of apertures in a plurality of orientations.
17 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 16 , wherein a concave structure extends from the second face of the plate and terminates at an end, and wherein the concave structure defines at least a portion of the opening.
18 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 17 , wherein a plurality of projections extend from the second face of the plate, each projection of the plurality of projections is disposed between the concave structure and the circular periphery of the plate and is configured to engage bone to prevent rotation of the plate when the plate is implanted in bone.
19 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 18 , wherein the plurality of projections include a plurality of spaced apart arms.
20 . The shoulder implant assembly of claim 19 , wherein the plurality of spaced apart arms taper as they extend from the second face of the plate to the end such that a width dimension of the spaced apart arms adjacent to the second face of the plate is greater than a width dimension at the end.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
