Claims

Abstract

The present disclosure provides a system that enables manipulation of a persistent display of shared content. Content can be shared with a host device from a guest device. A rendering of the content is configured to be manipulated by a user at the host device. For instance, a rendering of the content can be resized, scaled, rotated and moved within a graphical user interface. Annotations can also be added to the rendering of the content. The rendering of the content can also be persistently and automatically displayed in response to a device operating in a predetermined state. The predetermined state can include, for example, a lock screen mode, a bulletin board mode, or a mode when application user interfaces are minimized. The rendering may be removed from a display when the device exits the predetermined state or when the device receives a specific command to remove the rendering.

I/We claim: 
     
         1 . A computer-implemented method for rendering a persistent display of content data, the method comprising:
 receiving, at a server from a host device over a first connection, input data;   verifying, by the server, that the input data corresponds to input by a user physically located at the host device;   generating, by the server, a connection identifier;   transmitting, from the server to the host device, the connection identifier to cause the host device to display a graphical element conveying the connection identifier;   receiving, by the server from a guest device, a confirmation input including the connection identifier captured by the guest device from the graphical element;   based on receiving the confirmation input, establishing a temporary interim connection including the first connection and a second connection between the server and the guest device;   receiving, by the server from the guest device via the second connection, content data for display on the host device;   transmitting, from the server to the host device via the first connection, the content data for display on the host device; and   terminating, by the server, the interim connection.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the input data includes hardware data, and verifying the input data corresponds to input from a user physically located at the host device is based on the hardware data. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the input data includes sensor data captured by the host device indicating that at least one of the user or the guest device is physically present at the host device, and verifying the input data corresponds to input from a user physically located at the host device is based on the sensor data. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 receiving, by the server from the host device, a signal indicating at least one of the user or the guest device is not in proximity to the host device; and   wherein terminating the interim connection is based on the signal.   
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the graphical element further communicates an encryption key. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the content data, when received by the server, is encrypted with the encryption key. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the content data is stored in a data structure, wherein the data structure further comprises a permission for the content data and one or more attributes of the content data. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 7 , further comprising:
 receiving, at the host device, a touch-based annotation to the content data; and   storing the annotation as one of the attributes in the data structure.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 7 , further comprising:
 receiving, at the host device, a touch-based movement of the content data to reposition the content data on a display of the host device; and   based on the touch-based movement, storing position data of the content data as one of the attributes in the data structure.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the permission prevents write access to the one or more attributes when the host device is not operating in a predetermined mode. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the predetermined mode is a lock screen mode. 
     
     
         12 . A system for rendering a persistent display of content data, the system comprising:
 at least one processor; and   memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to perform operations comprising:
 receiving, from a host device over a first connection, input data; 
 verifying that the input data corresponds to input by a user physically located at the host device; 
 generating a connection identifier; 
 transmitting, to the host device, the connection identifier to cause the host device to display a graphical element conveying the connection identifier; 
 receiving, from a guest device, a confirmation input including the connection identifier captured by the guest device from the graphical element; 
 based on receiving the confirmation input, establishing a temporary interim connection including the first connection and a second connection between the system and the guest device; 
 receiving, from the guest device via the second connection, content data for display on the host device; 
 transmitting, to the host device via the first connection, the content data for display on the host device; and 
 terminating the interim connection. 
   
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 12 , wherein the input data includes hardware data, and verifying the input data corresponds to input from a user physically located at the host device is based on the hardware data. 
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 12 , wherein the input data includes sensor data captured by the host device indicating that at least one of the user or the guest device is physically present at the host device, and verifying the input data corresponds to input from a user physically located at the host device is based on the sensor data. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 12 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 receiving, from the host device, a signal indicating at least one of the user or the guest device is not in proximity to the host device; and   wherein terminating the interim connection is based on the signal.   
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 12 , wherein the graphical element further communicates an encryption key. 
     
     
         17 . The system of  claim 16 , wherein the content data, when received, is encrypted with the encryption key. 
     
     
         18 . A computer-implemented method for rendering a persistent display of content data, the method comprising:
 capturing, by a camera of a guest device, a graphical element displayed on a host device, the graphical element including a connection identifier, an encryption key, and an address for a server;   encrypting, by the guest device, content data with the encryption key; and   based on the address for the server, transmitting, by the guest device to a server, to the encrypted content data for display on the host device.   
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 18 , further comprising:
 transmitting, by the server, the encrypted content data to the host device; and   displaying, by the host device, the content data.   
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 18 , wherein the graphical element is a Quick Response (QR) code.
