Resonant power transfer systems with communications
Abstract
Methods and apparatus for wireless power transfer and communications are provided. In one embodiment, a wireless power transfer system comprises an external transmit resonator configured to transmit wireless power, an implantable receive resonator configured to receive the transmitted wireless power from the transmit resonator, and a user interface device comprising a resonant coil circuit, the resonant coil circuit being configured to receive magnetic communication signals from the transmit resonator or the receive resonator and to display information relating to the magnetic communication signals to a user of the user interface device.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A wireless power transfer system for powering a vascular assist device (VAD), the wireless power transfer system comprising:
an implantable receive resonator configured to receive transmitted wireless power from an external transmit resonator and to charge the VAD using the transmitted wireless power; and an external user interface device configured to:
receive magnetic communication signals from the implantable receive resonator, the magnetic communication signals including data related to the operation of the VAD; and
display, based on the received magnetic communication signals, information relating to the operation of the VAD.
2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the information relating to the operation of the VAD includes power consumption data.
3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the information relating to the operation of the VAD includes alarm event data.
4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the information relating to the operation of the VAD includes pump speed data.
5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the information relating to the operation of the VAD includes pulsatility index data.
6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the information relating to the operation of the VAD includes pump flow data
7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the external user interface device is also configured to transmit magnetic communication signals to the implantable receive resonator.
8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the external user interface device is wearable.
9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the external user interface device is affixed to a wrist strap.
10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the external user interface device is affixed to a belt.
11 . A method of transmitting wireless power and communications for operation of a vascular assist device (VAD), the method comprising:
charging the VAD using an implanted receive resonator coupled to the VAD; transmitting magnetic communication signals from at least the implanted receive resonator to an external user interface device, the magnetic communication signals including data related to the operation of the VAD; and displaying, on the external user interface device, based on the received magnetic communication signals, information relating to the operation of the VAD.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the information relating to the operation of the VAD includes power consumption data.
13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the information relating to the operation of the VAD includes alarm event data.
14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the information relating to the operation of the VAD includes pump speed data.
15 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the information relating to the operation of the VAD includes pulsatility index data.
16 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the information relating to the operation of the VAD includes pump flow data.
17 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising transmitting magnetic communication signals to the implantable receive resonator from the external user interface device.
18 . A wireless energy transmission system for powering a vascular assist device (VAD), the wireless power transfer system comprising:
an external transmit resonator; an implantable receive resonator configured to receive transmitted wireless power from the external transmit resonator and to charge the VAD using the transmitted wireless power; and an external display device configured to receive magnetic communication signals from the implantable receive resonator, the magnetic communication signals including data related to the operation of the VAD, the external display device configured to display, based on the received magnetic communication signals, information relating to the operation of the VAD.
