Abstract
Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for managing near field communications during a low power management mode of an electronic device are provided that may make credentials of a near field communication (“NFC”) component appropriately secure and appropriately accessible while also limiting the power consumption of the NFC component and of other components of the electronic device.

1 . A method, comprising:
receiving, by an application on an electronic device following initiation of a low power mode of the electronic device, authentication information from an input component of the electronic device; and facilitating, by the application, enabling of a near field communication component of the electronic device based on the received authentication information.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the application comprises a low power mode application.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein facilitating the enabling of the near field communication component comprises generating, by the application, an enable command for the near field communication component.
4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising, responsive to the initiation of the low power mode of the electronic device, disabling another application that was running on the electronic device prior to the initiation of the low power mode of the electronic device.
5 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising, disabling an active element of the electronic device, wherein the active element comprises at least one of a communications component or an output component.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the output component comprises a display.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the input component comprises at least one of: a microphone, a display, a biometric input component, a touch input component, a camera, and a scanner input component.
8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising detecting, by the application, a low power mode initiation event corresponding to the initiation of the low power mode of the electronic device.

The method of claim 8 , wherein detecting the low power mode initiation event comprises determining, based on received power level data, that a charge of a battery of the electronic device is at or below a predetermined threshold, wherein the predetermined threshold is set below a minimum battery charge value for executing an operating system of the electronic device.
10 . An electronic device, comprising:
a memory; and one or more processors configured to:
receive, by an application on the electronic device following initiation of a low power mode of the electronic device, authentication information from an input component of the electronic device; and
facilitate, by the application, enabling of a near field communication component of the electronic device based on the received authentication information.
11 . The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the application comprises a low power mode application.
12 . The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the one or more processors are configured to facilitate the enabling of the near field communication component at least in part by generating, by the application, an enable command for the near field communication component.
13 . The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to, responsive to the initiation of the low power mode of the electronic device, disable another application that was running on the electronic device prior to the initiation of the low power mode of the electronic device.
14 . The electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to disable an active element of the electronic device, wherein the active element comprises at least one of a communications component or an output component.
15 . The electronic device of claim 14 , wherein the output component comprises a display.
16 . The electronic device of claim 10 , further comprising the input component, wherein the input component comprises at least one of: a microphone, a display, a biometric input component, a touch input component, a camera, and a scanner input component.
17 . The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to detect, by the application, a low power mode initiation event corresponding to the initiation of the low power mode of the electronic device.

The electronic device of claim 17 , wherein the one or more processors are configured to detect the low power mode initiation event at least in part by determining, based on received power level data, that a charge of a battery of the electronic device is at or below a predetermined threshold, wherein the predetermined threshold is set below a minimum battery charge value for executing an operating system of the electronic device.
19 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium storing instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
receive, by an application on an electronic device following initiation of a low power mode of the electronic device, authentication information from an input component of the electronic device; and facilitate, by the application, enabling of a near field communication component of the electronic device based on the received authentication information.

The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the instructions, when executed by one or more processors, further cause the one or more processors to responsive to the initiation of the low power mode of the electronic device, disable another application that was running on the electronic device prior to the initiation of the low power mode of the electronic device.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
