Abstract

A device includes a memory that stores a User Equipment Route Selection Policy (URSP) that includes a rule. The rule includes enhanced route selection descriptors (RSDs). Each of the enhanced RSDs may include special RSD parameter, such as a Technology selector. The device is configured to receive a request from a component, in the device, to establish a session with a network. The request includes request parameters. The devices processes each of the RSDs.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A device comprising:
 a processor to:
 retrieve, from a memory device, a User Equipment Route Selection Policy (URSP) rule that includes route selection descriptors (RSDs);
receive a request to establish a session with a network, wherein the request includes request parameters; and
when RSD parameters of a RSD, among the RSDs included in the URSP rule, do not comprise a Technology selector parameter, apply the RSD to establish the session; and
when the RSD parameters comprise the Technology selector parameter,
when a first technology associated with the session matches a second technology specified by the Technology selector, apply the RSD to establish the session.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the first technology includes a Fifth Generation (5G) technology and the second technology includes a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) technology.

3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the device includes one of:
a modem; or a User Equipment device (UE).

4 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the memory device is configured to:
remove the URSP rule from the memory device in accordance with instructions from an Over-the-Air device in the network.

5 . The device of claim 1 , wherein when the first technology matches the second technology and when the processor applies the RSD, the processor is further configured to:
obtain one or more parameters for the session \from the RSD parameters and the request parameters.

6 . The device of claim 1 , wherein when the RSD parameters do not include the Technology selector parameter and when the processor applies the RSD, the processor is further configured to:
when the session is to be established with the network for a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) service, translate the RSD parameters to corresponding LTE parameters.

7 . The device of claim 6 , wherein when the processor translates the RSD parameters to the corresponding LTE parameters, the processor maps a data network name (DNN) to an Access Point Name.

         8 . A method comprising:
retrieving, from a device, a User Equipment Route Selection Policy (URSP) rule that includes route selection descriptors (RSDs); receiving a request to establish a session with a network, wherein the request includes request parameters; and when RSD parameters of a RSD, among the RSDs included in the URSP rule, do not comprise a Technology selector parameter, applying the RSD to establish the session; and when the RSD parameters comprise the Technology selector parameter,
when a first technology associated with the session matches a second technology specified by the Technology selector, applying the RSD to establish the session.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the first technology includes a Fifth Generation (5G) technology and the second technology includes a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) technology.

10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein retrieving the URSP rule includes:
retrieving, by a modem from the device, the URSP rule; or retrieving, by a processor included in a User Equipment device (UE), from the device, the URSP rule.

11 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising:
removing the URSP rule from the device in accordance with instructions from an Over-the-Air device in the network.

12 . The method of claim 8 , wherein when the first technology matches the second technology, applying the RSD comprises:
obtaining one or more parameters for the session from the RSD parameters and the request parameters.

13 . The method of claim 8 , wherein when the RSD parameters do not include the Technology selector parameter, applying the RSD comprises:
when the session is to be established with the network for a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) service, translating the RSD parameters to corresponding LTE parameters.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein translating the RSD parameters to the corresponding LTE parameters includes mapping a data network name (DNN) to an Access Point Name.

15 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium, comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by a processor included in a device, cause the processor to:
retrieve, from a memory device. a User Equipment Route Selection Policy (URSP) rule that includes route selection descriptors (RSDs); receive a request to establish a session with a network, wherein the request includes request parameters; and when RSD parameters of a RSD, among the RSDs included in the URSP rule, do not comprise a Technology selector parameter, apply the RSD to establish the session; and when the RSD parameters comprise the Technology selector parameter,
when a first technology associated with the session matches a second technology specified by the Technology selector, apply the RSD to establish the session.

16 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the first technology includes a Fifth Generation (5G) technology and the second technology includes a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) technology.

17 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the device includes one of:
a modem; or a User Equipment device (UE).

18 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the memory device is configured to:
remove the URSP rule from the memory device in accordance with instructions from an Over-the-Air device in the network.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein when the first technology matches the second technology, and when the processor applies the RSD, the processor is to:
obtain one or more parameters for the session from the RSD parameters and the request parameters.
