Abstract

Example methods and apparatus to detect uninstallation of applications on mobile devices. An example apparatus includes means for detecting that an application is to be uninstalled from the mobile device. The apparatus includes means for displaying a prompt indicating whether the means for detecting is to be uninstalled when the application is to be uninstalled. The apparatus includes means for transmitting an uninstallation notification to a remote data collector when the application is to be uninstalled, the uninstallation notification to enable identification of at least one of the mobile device associated with the uninstallation or a user of the mobile device.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An apparatus to detect uninstallation of applications on mobile devices, the apparatus comprising:
means for detecting a message from an operating system of a mobile device, the message to include an indication that an application is to be uninstalled from the mobile device; means for displaying a prompt to request an indication of whether or not the means for detecting is to be uninstalled when the application is to be uninstalled; and means for transmitting an uninstallation notification to a remote data collector when the application is to be uninstalled, the uninstallation notification to include an identifier of at least one of the mobile device or a user of the mobile device.

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the application is to gather status information of the means for detecting to ensure that the means for detecting is installed.

3 . The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the application is to transmit the status information to a data collector.

4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the means for displaying is to instruct the operating system to remove the means for detecting from the mobile device.

5 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further including means for detecting startup, the means for detecting startup to cause the means for detecting to determine if the application has been uninstalled during startup of the mobile device.

6 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the application is an on-device meter application.

7 . The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the means for detecting is to detect uninstallation of the on-device meter application.

8 . The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the means for detecting is dedicated to monitoring the on-device meter application.

9 . An apparatus to detect uninstallation of applications on mobile devices, the apparatus comprising:
an uninstall detector to detect a message from an operating system of a mobile device, the message to include an indication that an application is to be uninstalled from the mobile device; an uninstaller to display a prompt to request an indication of whether or not the uninstall detector is to be uninstalled when the application is to be uninstalled; and a communicator to transmit an uninstallation notification to a remote data collector when the application is to be uninstalled, the uninstallation notification to include an identifier of at least one of the mobile device or a user of the mobile device.

10 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the application is to gather status information of the uninstall detector to ensure that the uninstall detector is installed.

11 . The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the application is to transmit the status information to a data collector.

12 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the uninstaller is to instruct the operating system to remove the uninstall detector from the mobile device.

13 . The apparatus of claim 9 , further including a startup detector to cause the uninstall detector to determine if the application has been uninstalled during startup of the mobile device.

14 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the application is an on-device meter application.

15 . The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the uninstall detector is to detect uninstallation of the on-device meter application.

16 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the uninstall detector is dedicated to monitoring the on-device meter application.

17 . A tangible machine-readable storage medium, comprising instructions which, when executed, cause a machine to at least:
detect a message from an operating system of a mobile device, the message to include an indication that an application is to be uninstalled from the mobile device; cause display of a prompt to request an indication of whether or not an uninstall detector is to be uninstalled when the application is to be uninstalled; and transmit an uninstallation notification to a remote data collector when the application is to be uninstalled, the uninstallation notification to include an identifier of at least one of the mobile device or a user of the mobile device.

18 . The tangible machine-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the application is to gather status information of the uninstall detector to ensure that the uninstall detector is installed.

19 . The tangible machine-readable storage medium of claim 18 , wherein the application is to transmit the status information to a data collector.

20 . The tangible machine-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the uninstaller to instruct the operating system to remove the uninstall detector from the mobile device.
