Abstract

A system is described whereby a cloud router may allow routing as a service in a cloud-like manner. In an example, an apparatus may include a processor and a memory coupled with the processor that effectuates operations. The operations may include receiving first routing information associated with a first customer edge device; adding the first routing information to network routing information of the apparatus, wherein the network routing information comprises a network routing table with routes for a plurality of networks; and propagating the network routing information to a software defined network (SDN) controller, wherein, based on the network routing information, the SDN controller sends a forwarding information base (FIB) to a provider edge device connected with the first customer edge device.

What is claimed: 
     
         1 . A device comprising:
 a processing system including a processor; and   a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:
 receiving network routing information comprising routing information associated with a customer edge device and a network routing table with routes for a plurality of networks, the routes including a backbone path; and 
 sending, based on the network routing information, a forwarding information base (FIB) to a provider edge device connected with the customer edge device. 
   
     
     
         2 . The device of  claim 1 , wherein the backbone path facilitates a replacement of the provider edge device without requiring a change to the customer edge device. 
     
     
         3 . The device of  claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 propagating the network routing information to a plurality of network edge devices, wherein the plurality of network edge devices comprises the customer edge device.   
     
     
         4 . The device of  claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 propagating the network routing information to a plurality of network edge devices, wherein the plurality of network edge devices comprises the customer edge device, wherein the network routing information comprises a unified routing information base (RIB) for the plurality of network edge devices.   
     
     
         5 . The device of  claim 1 , wherein the network routing information comprises a security policy, wherein the security policy is based on information from a business support system (BSS). 
     
     
         6 . The device of  claim 1 , wherein the network routing information comprises a security policy, wherein the security policy comprises an access control list. 
     
     
         7 . The device of  claim 1 , wherein the network routing information comprises a security policy, wherein the security policy comprises instructions for throttling traffic to the customer edge device. 
     
     
         8 . A method comprising:
 obtaining, by a processing system including a processor, network routing information comprising routing information associated with a customer edge device and a network routing table with routes for a plurality of networks including a backbone path; and   sending, by the processing system and based on the network routing information, a forwarding information base (FIB) to a provider edge device connected with the customer edge device.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the backbone path facilitates a replacement of the provider edge device without requiring a change of the customer edge device. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 8 , further comprising:
 propagating, by the processing system, the network routing information to a plurality of network edge devices, wherein the plurality of network edge devices comprises the customer edge device.   
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 8 , further comprising:
 propagating, by the processing system, the network routing information to a plurality of network edge devices, wherein the plurality of network edge devices comprises the customer edge device, wherein the network routing information is a unified routing information base (RIB) for the plurality of network edge devices.   
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the network routing information comprises a security policy, wherein the security policy is based on information from a business support system (BSS). 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the network routing information comprises a security policy, wherein the security policy comprises an access control list. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the network routing information comprises a security policy, wherein the security policy comprises instructions for throttling traffic to the customer edge device. 
     
     
         15 . A non-transitory, machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:
 obtaining routing information associated with a first network edge device, wherein the routing information comprises a routing table with routes for a plurality of networks including a backbone path; and   providing, based on the routing information, a forwarding information base (FIB) to a second network edge device connected with the first network edge device.   
     
     
         16 . The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein the first network edge device comprises a customer edge device and the second network edge device comprises a provider edge device, and wherein the backbone path facilitates a replacement of the provider edge device without requiring a change of the customer edge device. 
     
     
         17 . The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise propagating the routing information to a plurality of network edge devices, wherein the plurality of network edge devices comprises the first network edge device, wherein the routing information is a unified routing information base (RIB) for the plurality of network edge devices. 
     
     
         18 . The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein the routing information comprises a security policy, wherein the security policy is based on information from a business support system (BSS). 
     
     
         19 . The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein the routing information comprises a security policy, wherein the security policy comprises an access control list. 
     
     
         20 . The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein the routing information comprises a security policy, wherein the security policy comprises instructions for throttling traffic to the first network edge device.
