Abstract
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, identifying an assigned friendly-phrase embedded universal integrated circuit card identifier (fpEID) for a wireless communication device and sending a service request message to a service provider network to initiate a service activation procedure, the service request message comprising the assigned fpEID. Various embodiments can include sending an fpEID assignment request message to a device vendor network, receiving an fpEID assignment confirmation message from the device vendor network in response to the fpEID assignment request message, and identifying the assigned fpEID based on the fpEID assignment confirmation message. Other embodiments are disclosed.

1 . An apparatus, comprising:
a processing system for a service activation framework of a service provider, the processing system including a processor; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:
receiving a wireless service request message to initiate a wireless service activation procedure, the wireless service request message being received from a wireless communication device and comprising an assigned friendly-phrase embedded universal integrated circuit card identifier (fpEID) for the wireless communication device, wherein the assigned fpEID for the wireless communication device is determined by the wireless communication device according to an fpEID assignment confirmation message obtained by the wireless communication device from an identity management framework of a device vendor;
providing an EID retrieval request message to an identity management framework of a device vendor, the EID retrieval request message comprising the assigned fpEID for the wireless communication device; and
receiving, from the identity management framework of the device vendor, an EID of the wireless communication device according to a successful authentication of the wireless communication device by the identity management framework.
2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the EID retrieval request message includes device information associated with the wireless communication device.
3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein an fpEID assignment request message sent by the wireless communication device to the identity management framework comprises the EID of the wireless communication device.
4 . The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the fpEID assignment request message includes a requested fpEID, and wherein the assigned fpEID is equal to the requested fpEID.
5 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the EID retrieval request message further comprises an international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) of the wireless communication device.
6 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the EID of the wireless communication device and the assigned fpEID are stored by the identity management framework.
7 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system for a service activation framework of a service provider, the processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:
receiving a wireless service request message to initiate a wireless service activation procedure, the wireless service request message being received from a wireless communication device and comprising an assigned friendly-phrase embedded universal integrated circuit card identifier (fpEID) for the wireless communication device, wherein the assigned fpEID for the wireless communication device is determined by the wireless communication device according to an fpEID assignment confirmation message obtained by the wireless communication device from an identity management framework of a device vendor; providing an EID retrieval request message to an identity management framework of a device vendor, the EID retrieval request message comprising the assigned fpEID for the wireless communication device, the EID retrieval request message including device information associated with the wireless communication device; and receiving, from the identity management framework of the device vendor, an EID of the wireless communication device.
8 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the receiving the EID of the wireless communication device is according to a successful authentication of the wireless communication device by the identity management framework.
9 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the EID retrieval request message includes device information associated with the wireless communication device.
10 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein an fpEID assignment request message sent by the wireless communication device to the identity management framework comprises the EID of the wireless communication device.
11 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the fpEID assignment request message includes a requested fpEID, and wherein the assigned fpEID is equal to the requested fpEID.
12 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the EID retrieval request message further comprises an international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) of the wireless communication device.
13 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the EID of the wireless communication device and the assigned fpEID are stored by the identity management framework.
14 . A method, comprising:
receiving, by a processing system for a service activation framework of a service provider, a wireless service request message to initiate a wireless service activation procedure, the wireless service request message being received from a wireless communication device and comprising an assigned friendly-phrase embedded universal integrated circuit card identifier (fpEID) for the wireless communication device, wherein the assigned fpEID for the wireless communication device is determined by the wireless communication device according to an fpEID assignment confirmation message obtained by the wireless communication device from an identity management framework of a device vendor; providing, by the processing system, an EID retrieval request message to an identity management framework of a device vendor, the EID retrieval request message comprising the assigned fpEID for the wireless communication device; and receiving, by the processing system from the identity management framework of the device vendor, an EID of the wireless communication device according to a successful authentication of the wireless communication device by the identity management framework.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the EID retrieval request message includes device information associated with the wireless communication device.
16 . The method of claim 14 , wherein an fpEID assignment request message sent by the wireless communication device to the identity management framework comprises the EID of the wireless communication device.
17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the fpEID assignment request message includes a requested fpEID, and wherein the assigned fpEID is equal to the requested fpEID.
18 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the EID retrieval request message further comprises an international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) of the wireless communication device.
19 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the EID of the wireless communication device and the assigned fpEID are stored by the identity management framework.
