Abstract

A cloud based mobile internet protocol messaging spam defense. Short message service (SMS) messages are analyzed by a cloud based virtual machine to determine if should be considered potentially unwanted messages (e.g., spam). The cloud based virtual machine uses a user specific algorithm for determining if a message should be considered to be a potentially unwanted message. Messages that are determined to be potentially unwanted messages trigger a notification to be sent to a user device associated with the virtual machine. The notification requests confirmation from the user that the potentially unwanted message is an unwanted message. The user’s response to a request for confirmation is then used to update an unwanted message database associated with the user and the user device.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method, comprising:
 identifying, by a computer including a processor, a first user associated with first messages;   identifying, by the computer, a first potential spam message by analyzing the first messages via a first algorithm selected by the first user;   identifying, by the computer, a second user associated with second messages; and   identifying, by the computer, a second potential spam message by analyzing the second messages via a second algorithm selected by the second user, wherein the second algorithm is different from the first algorithm.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 requesting, by the computer and based on the first algorithm identifying the first potential spam message, confirmation from the first user that the first potential spam message is spam;   receiving, by the computer and based on the requesting, a response from the first user; and   updating, by the computer, the first algorithm in accordance with the response.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the first potential spam message is of a first type, and wherein the second potential spam message is of a second type that is different from the first type. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the first type is a voicemail, and wherein the second type is one of a short message service (SMS) message or a message associated with a chat program. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining, by the computer, a messaging account associated with one of the first user or the second user.   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining, by the computer, a messaging account associated with one of the first messages or the second messages.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining, by the computer, an identification of a sender associated with the first potential spam message; and   updating, by the computer, the first algorithm in accordance with the identification.   
     
     
         8 . A system, comprising:
 a hardware processor; and   a memory device, the memory device storing instructions, the instructions when executed by the hardware processor cause the system to perform operations, the operations comprising:   identifying a first user associated with first messages, wherein the first user is a recipient of the first messages, and wherein a second user is a sender of the first messages;   identifying a first potential spam message by analyzing the first messages via a first algorithm selected by the first user; and   updating the first algorithm based on a confirmation that the first potential spam message is spam.   
     
     
         9 . The system of  claim 8 , wherein the first potential spam message is included in the first messages. 
     
     
         10 . The system of  claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 requesting the confirmation from the first user; and   receiving, based on the requesting, a response from the first user, the response including the confirmation.   
     
     
         11 . The system of  claim 8 , wherein the first potential spam message is of a first type. 
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 identifying a second potential spam message by analyzing second messages via a second algorithm selected by a third user.   
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 12 , wherein the second potential spam message is of a second type that is different from the first type. 
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 13 , wherein the first type is a voicemail. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein the second type is a short message service (SMS) message. 
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein the second type is a message associated with a chat program. 
     
     
         17 . A non-transitory memory device storing instructions that, when executed, cause a hardware processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:
 identifying a first user associated with first messages;   identifying a first potential spam message included in the first messages by analyzing the first messages via a first algorithm selected by the first user, wherein the first algorithm is executed by a virtual machine that is associated with the first user; and   updating the first algorithm based on confirmation that the first potential spam message is spam.   
     
     
         18 . The non-transitory memory device of  claim 17 , wherein the operations further comprise: requesting a credential from a user device associated with the first user. 
     
     
         19 . The non-transitory memory device of  claim 18 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 logging into a messaging account using the credential, wherein the first messages are associated with the messaging account.   
     
     
         20 . The non-transitory memory device of  claim 19 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 retrieving the first messages from the messaging account prior to a delivery of any of the first messages to the user device.
