Methods and interfaces for home media control
Abstract
The present disclosure generally relates to interfaces and techniques for media playback on one or more devices. In accordance with some embodiments, an electronic device includes a display, one or more processors, and memory. The electronic device receives user input and, in response to receiving the user input, displays, on the display, a multi-device interface that includes: one or more indicators associated with a plurality of available playback devices that are connected to the device and available to initiate playback of media from the device, and a media playback status of the plurality of available playback devices.
Claims

a display; one or more processors; and memory storing one or more programs configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for:
displaying, via the display, a user interface that includes:
a first affordance that corresponds to a first playback device, wherein the first playback device is configured to play back a first media item;
a second affordance that corresponds to a second playback device, wherein the second playback device is configured to play back a second media item; and
a third affordance that corresponds to a first group of playback devices that includes a third playback device and a fourth playback device, wherein the first group of playback devices is configured to play back a third media item;
while displaying the first affordance, the second affordance, and the third affordance, detecting a first input outside of the display of the first affordance, second affordance and the third affordance; and
in response to detecting the first input:
in accordance with a determination that the first affordance is visually emphasized, displaying a first set of playback controls that, when selected, causes the first playback device to perform one or more functions;
in accordance with a determination that the second affordance is visually emphasized, displaying a second set of playback controls that, when selected, causes the second playback device to perform one or more functions; and
in accordance with a determination that the third affordance is visually emphasized, displaying a third set of playback controls that, when selected, causes the first group of playback devices to perform one or more functions.
2 . The electronic device of claim 1 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:
after detecting the first input, detecting a second input that corresponds to selection of a respective set of playback controls; and in response to detecting the second input:
in accordance with a determination that the second input corresponds to selection of a playback control in the first set of playback controls, transmitting instructions to the first playback device that modifies a playback status of the first playback device;
in accordance with a determination that the second input corresponds to selection of a playback control in the second set of playback controls, transmitting instructions to the second playback device that modifies a playback status of the second playback device; and
in accordance with a determination that the second input corresponds to selection of a playback control in the third set of playback controls, transmitting instructions to the third playback device that modifies a playback status of the third playback device.
3 . The electronic device of claim 1 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:
while displaying the first set of playback controls, detecting a third input outside of the display of the first set of playback controls; and in response to detecting the third input outside of the display of the first set of playback controls:
ceasing the display of the first set of playback controls; and
displaying the user interface.
4 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein:
displaying the first affordance includes displaying a first representation of the first media item that the first playback device is configured to playback; displaying the second affordance includes displaying a second representation of the second media item that the second playback device is configured to playback; and displaying the third affordance includes displaying a third representation of the third media item that the first group of playback devices is configured to playback.

The electronic device of claim 4 , wherein the first representation of the first media item includes a first textual and graphical representation, wherein the second representation of the second media item includes a second textual and graphical representation, and wherein the third representation of the third media item includes a third textual and graphical representation.
6 . The electronic device of claim 4 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:
in response to detecting the first input;
in accordance with a determination that the first affordance is visually emphasized, displaying the first representation of the first media item concurrently with the display of the first set of playback controls;
in accordance with a determination that the second affordance is visually emphasized, displaying the second representation of the second media item concurrently with the display of the second set of playback controls; and
in accordance with a determination that the third affordance is visually emphasized, displaying the third set of playback controls concurrently with the display of the second set of playback controls.
7 . The electronic device of claim 1 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:
in response to detecting the first input, ceasing to display the first affordance, the second affordance, and the third affordance.
8 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first input corresponds to a tap input.
9 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first affordance is visually emphasized, the one or more programs further including instructions for:
while the first affordance is visually emphasized, detecting a fourth input that corresponds to selection of the second affordance; and in response to detecting the fourth input:
ceasing to display the first affordance as visually emphasized; and
displaying the second affordance as visually emphasized.
10 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs configured to be executed by one or more processors of an electronic device with a display, the one or more programs including instructions for:
displaying, via the display, a user interface that includes:
a first affordance that corresponds to a first playback device, wherein the first playback device is configured to play back a first media item;
a second affordance that corresponds to a second playback device, wherein the second playback device is configured to play back a second media item; and
a third affordance that corresponds to a first group of playback devices that includes a third playback device and a fourth playback device, wherein the first group of playback devices is configured to play back a third media item;
while displaying the first affordance, the second affordance, and the third affordance, detecting a first input outside of the display of the first affordance, second affordance and the third affordance; and in response to detecting the first input:
in accordance with a determination that the first affordance is visually emphasized, displaying a first set of playback controls that, when selected, causes the first playback device to perform one or more functions;
in accordance with a determination that the second affordance is visually emphasized, displaying a second set of playback controls that, when selected, causes the second playback device to perform one or more functions; and
in accordance with a determination that the third affordance is visually emphasized, displaying a third set of playback controls that, when selected, causes the first group of playback devices to perform one or more functions.
11 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the one or more programs further include instructions for:
after detecting the first input, detecting a second input that corresponds to selection of a respective set of playback controls; and in response to detecting the second input:
in accordance with a determination that the second input corresponds to selection of a playback control in the first set of playback controls, transmitting instructions to the first playback device that modifies a playback status of the first playback device;
in accordance with a determination that the second input corresponds to selection of a playback control in the second set of playback controls, transmitting instructions to the second playback device that modifies a playback status of the second playback device; and
in accordance with a determination that the second input corresponds to selection of a playback control in the third set of playback controls, transmitting instructions to the third playback device that modifies a playback status of the third playback device.
12 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the one or more programs further include instructions for:
while displaying the first set of playback controls, detecting a third input outside of the display of the first set of playback controls; and in response to detecting the third input outside of the display of the first set of playback controls:
ceasing the display of the first set of playback controls; and
displaying the user interface.
13 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein:
displaying the first affordance includes displaying a first representation of the first media item that the first playback device is configured to playback; displaying the second affordance includes displaying a second representation of the second media item that the second playback device is configured to playback; and displaying the third affordance includes displaying a third representation of the third media item that the first group of playback devices is configured to playback.

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the first representation of the first media item includes a first textual and graphical representation, wherein the second representation of the second media item includes a second textual and graphical representation, and wherein the third representation of the third media item includes a third textual and graphical representation.
15 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the one or more programs further include instructions for:
in response to detecting the first input;
in accordance with a determination that the first affordance is visually emphasized, displaying the first representation of the first media item concurrently with the display of the first set of playback controls;
in accordance with a determination that the second affordance is visually emphasized, displaying the second representation of the second media item concurrently with the display of the second set of playback controls; and
in accordance with a determination that the third affordance is visually emphasized, displaying the third set of playback controls concurrently with the display of the second set of playback controls.
16 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the one or more programs further include instructions for:
in response to detecting the first input, ceasing to display the first affordance, the second affordance, and the third affordance.
17 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the first input corresponds to a tap input.
18 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the first affordance is visually emphasized, and wherein the one or more programs further include instructions for:
while the first affordance is visually emphasized, detecting a fourth input that corresponds to selection of the second affordance; and in response to detecting the fourth input:
ceasing to display the first affordance as visually emphasized; and
displaying the second affordance as visually emphasized.
19 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
at an electronic device with a display:
displaying, via the display, a user interface that includes:
a first affordance that corresponds to a first playback device, wherein the first playback device is configured to play back a first media item;
a second affordance that corresponds to a second playback device, wherein the second playback device is configured to play back a second media item; and
a third affordance that corresponds to a first group of playback devices that includes a third playback device and a fourth playback device, wherein the first group of playback devices is configured to play back a third media item;
while displaying the first affordance, the second affordance, and the third affordance, detecting a first input outside of the display of the first affordance, second affordance and the third affordance; and
in response to detecting the first input:
in accordance with a determination that the first affordance is visually emphasized, displaying a first set of playback controls that, when selected, causes the first playback device to perform one or more functions;
in accordance with a determination that the second affordance is visually emphasized, displaying a second set of playback controls that, when selected, causes the second playback device to perform one or more functions; and
in accordance with a determination that the third affordance is visually emphasized, displaying a third set of playback controls that, when selected, causes the first group of playback devices to perform one or more functions.
20 . The computer-implemented method of claim 19 , further comprising:
after detecting the first input, detecting a second input that corresponds to selection of a respective set of playback controls; and in response to detecting the second input:
in accordance with a determination that the second input corresponds to selection of a playback control in the first set of playback controls, transmitting instructions to the first playback device that modifies a playback status of the first playback device;
in accordance with a determination that the second input corresponds to selection of a playback control in the second set of playback controls, transmitting instructions to the second playback device that modifies a playback status of the second playback device; and
in accordance with a determination that the second input corresponds to selection of a playback control in the third set of playback controls, transmitting instructions to the third playback device that modifies a playback status of the third playback device.
21 . The computer-implemented method of claim 19 , further comprising:
while displaying the first set of playback controls, detecting a third input outside of the display of the first set of playback controls; and in response to detecting the third input outside of the display of the first set of playback controls:
ceasing the display of the first set of playback controls; and
displaying the user interface.
22 . The computer-implemented method of claim 19 , wherein:
displaying the first affordance includes displaying a first representation of the first media item that the first playback device is configured to playback; displaying the second affordance includes displaying a second representation of the second media item that the second playback device is configured to playback; and displaying the third affordance includes displaying a third representation of the third media item that the first group of playback devices is configured to playback.

The computer-implemented method of claim 22 , wherein the first representation of the first media item includes a first textual and graphical representation, wherein the second representation of the second media item includes a second textual and graphical representation, and wherein the third representation of the third media item includes a third textual and graphical representation.
24 . The computer-implemented method of claim 22 , further comprising:
in response to detecting the first input;
in accordance with a determination that the first affordance is visually emphasized, displaying the first representation of the first media item concurrently with the display of the first set of playback controls;
in accordance with a determination that the second affordance is visually emphasized, displaying the second representation of the second media item concurrently with the display of the second set of playback controls; and
in accordance with a determination that the third affordance is visually emphasized, displaying the third set of playback controls concurrently with the display of the second set of playback controls.
25 . The computer-implemented method of claim 19 , further comprising:
in response to detecting the first input, ceasing to display the first affordance, the second affordance, and the third affordance.
26 . The computer-implemented method of claim 19 , wherein the first input corresponds to a tap input.
27 . The computer-implemented method of claim 19 , wherein the first affordance is visually emphasized, and further comprising:
while the first affordance is visually emphasized, detecting a fourth input that corresponds to selection of the second affordance; and in response to detecting the fourth input:
ceasing to display the first affordance as visually emphasized; and
