Abstract

Systems and methods for sensing and monitoring various athletic performance metrics, e.g., during the course of a game, a practice, a training session, training drills, and the like, are described. These systems and methods can provide useful metrics for players and coaches relating to athletic performances in various sports, including various team sports.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
We claim:

         1 . A method comprising:
 determining, by one or more computing devices, a first type of activity performed by a first player; transmitting, by the one or more computing device and based on the first type of activity, contextual performance information to an on-body receiver comprising one or more body-mounted activity sensors; and receiving, from the on-body receiver and based on the contextual performance information, an indication of one or more data processing algorithms for determining a plurality of performance metrics for the first player.

         2 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the on-body receiver further comprises a wrist worn device.

         3 . The method according to claim 2 , further comprising
 determine, based on athletic activity data obtained from the on-body receiver, a first set of athletic performance metrics; and adjusting an accuracy of one or more athletic performance metrics in the first set of athletic performance metrics based on the athletic activity data.

         4 . The method according to claim 3 , further comprising:
 calibrating the one or more body-mounted activity sensors based on the athletic activity data collected by the one or more computing devices.

         5 . The method according to claim 3 , wherein the athletic activity data comprises movement data.

         6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the contextual performance information comprises a direction of movement.

         7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of performance metrics comprise speed and distance.

         8 . An apparatus comprising:
 one or more processors; memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
 determine a first type of activity performed by a first player;
 transmit, based on the first type of activity, contextual performance information to an on-body receiver comprising one or more body-mounted activity sensors; and
 receive, from the on-body receiver and based on the contextual performance information, an indication of one or more data processing algorithms for determining a plurality of performance metrics for the first player.

         9 . The apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein the on-body receiver further comprises a wrist worn device.

         10 . The apparatus according to claim 9 , the memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
 determine, based on athletic activity data obtained from the on-body receiver, a first set of athletic performance metrics; and adjust an accuracy of one or more athletic performance metrics in the first set of athletic performance metrics based on the athletic activity data.

         11 . The apparatus according to claim 10 , the memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
 Calibrate the one or more body-mounted activity sensors based on the athletic activity data collected by the one or more computing devices.

         12 . The apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the athletic activity data comprises movement data.

         13 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the contextual performance information comprises a direction of movement.

         14 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of performance metrics comprise speed and distance.

         15 . A system comprising:
 an on-body receiver comprising one or more body-mounted activity sensors; a computing device configured to:
 determine a first type of activity performed by a first player;
 transmit, based on the first type of activity, contextual performance information to the on-body receiver; and
 receive, from the on-body receiver and based on the contextual performance information, an indication of one or more data processing algorithms for determining a plurality of performance metrics for the first player.

         16 . The system according to claim 15 , wherein the on-body receiver further comprises a wrist worn device.

         17 . The system according to claim 16 , the computing device configured to:
 determine, based on athletic activity data obtained from the on-body receiver, a first set of athletic performance metrics; and adjust an accuracy of one or more athletic performance metrics in the first set of athletic performance metrics based on the athletic activity data.

         18 . The system according to claim 17 , the computing device configured to:
 calibrate the one or more body-mounted activity sensors based on the athletic activity data collected by the one or more computing devices.

         19 . The system according to claim 17 , wherein the athletic activity data comprises movement data.

         20 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the contextual performance information comprises a direction of movement.
