Abstract
Network identifiers are extracted from route advertisements. A table associates virtual network identifiers with provider edge devices. When a virtual network identifier extracted from a route advertisement matches a virtual network identifier in the table, the route advertisement is propagated to the provider edge devices associated with that virtual network identifier in the table. The route advertisement is not propagated to provider edge devices not associated with that virtual network identifier in the table.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method of providing route advertisements to provider edge devices, the method comprising:
receiving, from a first provider edge device on a virtual private network, a first route advertisement; extracting, from the first route advertisement, an extracted virtual network identifier; determining whether a datastore associating provider edge devices with virtual network identifiers includes a record comprising the extracted virtual network identifier, a first identifier associated with the first provider edge device, and a second identifier associated with a second provider edge device;
in response to determining that the datastore includes a record comprising the virtual network identifier, the record comprising the virtual network identifier being included in the datastore based on a previous route advertisement:
identifying, based on the record, the second provider edge device on the virtual private network associated with the virtual network identifier; and
determining that the extracted virtual network identifier matches the second identifier; and
transmitting, to the second provider edge device, the first route advertisement.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
identifying a second route advertisement including the virtual network identifier; and transmitting, to the first provider edge device, the second route advertisement.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
refraining from transmitting the first route advertisement to a third provider edge device that is not included in the record.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the virtual network identifier comprises a virtual extensible local area network (VXLAN) network identifier.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
adding at least one route eligibility entry to a route eligibility table, the at least one route eligibility entry corresponding to the virtual network identifier.
6 . The method of claim 5 , further comprising:
adding an identifier of the second provider edge device to the at least one route eligibility entry.
7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
in response to determining that the first route advertisement contains an additional virtual network identifier, extracting the additional virtual network identifier from the first route advertisement.
8 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, perform a method of providing route advertisements to provider edge devices, the method comprising:
receiving, from a first provider edge device on a virtual private network, a first route advertisement; extracting, from the first route advertisement, a virtual network identifier; determining whether a datastore associating provider edge devices with virtual network identifiers includes a record comprising the virtual network identifier, a first identifier associated with the first provider edge device, and a second identifier associated with a second provider edge device;
in response to determining that the datastore includes a record comprising the virtual network identifier, the record comprising the virtual network identifier being included in the datastore based on a previous route advertisement:
identifying, based on the record, the second provider edge device on the virtual private network associated with the virtual network identifier; and
determining that the extracted virtual network identifier matches the second identifier; and
transmitting, to the second provider edge device, the first route advertisement.
9 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , wherein the method further comprises:
identifying a second route advertisement including the virtual network identifier; and transmitting, to the first provider edge device, the second route advertisement.
10 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , wherein the method further comprises:
refraining from transmitting the first route advertisement to a third provider edge device that is not included in the record.
11 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , wherein the virtual network identifier comprises a virtual extensible local area network (VXLAN) network identifier.
12 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , wherein the method further comprises:
adding at least one route eligibility entry to a route eligibility table, the at least one route eligibility entry corresponding to the virtual network identifier.
13 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 12 , wherein the method further comprises:
adding an identifier of the second provider edge device to the at least one route eligibility entry.
14 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , wherein the method further comprises:
in response to determining that the first route advertisement contains an additional virtual network identifier, extracting the additional virtual network identifier from the first route advertisement.
15 . A system for coordinating host link status and installation of local egress filters in connection with a multi-chassis link aggregation group (MLAG) peer, the system comprising:
a processor; and one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, perform a method comprising:
receiving, from a first provider edge device on a virtual private network, a first route advertisement;
extracting, from the first route advertisement, a virtual network identifier;
determining whether a datastore associating provider edge devices with virtual network identifiers includes a record comprising the virtual network identifier, a first identifier associated with the first provider edge device, and a second identifier associated with a second provider edge device;
in response to determining that the datastore includes a record comprising the virtual network identifier, the record comprising the virtual network identifier being included in the datastore based on a previous route advertisement:
identifying, based on the record, the second provider edge device on the virtual private network associated with the virtual network identifier; and
transmitting, to the second provider edge device, the first route advertisement.
16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the method further comprises:
identifying a second route advertisement including the virtual network identifier; and transmitting, to the first provider edge device, the second route advertisement.
17 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the method further comprises:
refraining from transmitting the first route advertisement to a third provider edge device that is not included in the record.
18 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the virtual network identifier comprises a virtual extensible local area network (VXLAN) network identifier.
19 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the method further comprises:
adding at least one route eligibility entry to a route eligibility table, the at least one route eligibility entry corresponding to the virtual network identifier.
20 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the method further comprises:
adding an identifier of the second provider edge device to the at least one route eligibility entry.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
