Abstract
A component for an article for use in an aerosol delivery system includes a body of fibrous material comprising first and second additive release components embedded within the body of fibrous material. The first and second additive release components each have a maximum diameter between about 1.5 mm and about 2.5 mm and the first and second additive release components are separated by a distance of less than about 2.5 mm. There is also provided an article including the component and a system including the article and a non-combustible aerosol provision device for heating the aerosol generating material of the article. A manufacturing method is also provided.

A component for an article for use in an aerosol delivery system, the component comprising a body of fibrous material comprising first and second additive release components embedded within the body of fibrous material, wherein the first and second additive release components each have a maximum diameter between about 1.5 mm and about 2.5 mm and the first and second additive release components are separated by a distance of less than about 2.5 mm.
2 . The component of claim 1 , wherein the first and second additive release components are separated by a distance of less than about 2.0 mm, less than about 1.5 mm or less than about 1.0 mm.
3 . The component of claim 1 , wherein the longitudinal separation between the centers of the first and second additive release components is at least about 0.75 mm, at least about 1.0 mm, at least about 1.5 mm, at least about 2.0 mm or at least about 2.5 mm.
4 . The component of claim 1 , wherein the first and second additive release components are each disposed along a longitudinal axis of the component.
5 . The component of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first and second additive release components has a center which is offset from a longitudinal axis of the component by at least about 2 mm.
6 . The component according to of claim 1 , wherein a maximum separation between the centre a center of each of the first and second additive release components is less than about 2.5 mm, less than about 2.0 mm, less than about 1.5 mm, less than about 1.0 mm, or less than about 0.8 mm.
7 . The component of claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second additive release components contains an additive, and a total mass of additive contained within the first and second additive release components is between 10 and 14 mg.
8 . The component of claim 1 , wherein a total volume of the first and second additive release components is between about 2 mm 3 and about 12 mm 3 .
9 . The component of claim 1 , wherein the diameter of the first additive release component is different to the diameter of the second additive release component.
10 . The component of claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second additive release components comprises a capsule.
11 . The component of claim 10 , wherein each of the first and second additive release components comprises a shell and an additive enclosed within the shell.
12 . The component of claim 11 , wherein the shell is breakable to release the additive enclosed therein.
13 . The component of claim 1 , wherein the first and second additive release components are substantially spherical.
14 . The component according to any of claim 1 , wherein the additive contained within the first and second additive release components comprises an aerosol modifying agent.
15 . The component of claim 1 , wherein the first additive release component contains a first aerosol modifying agent, and the second additive release component contains a second aerosol modifying agent.
16 . The component of claim 1 , further comprising a third additive release component.
17 . The component of claim 1 , wherein the fibrous material comprises filamentary tow.
18 . The component of claim 17 , wherein the filamentary tow comprises a weight per mm of length of the body of material which is between about 10% and about 30% of the range between the minimum and maximum weights of a tow capability curve generated for the filamentary tow.
19 . An article for use in an aerosol delivery system, the article comprising:
an aerosol generating material; and a component comprising a body of fibrous material comprising first and second additive release components embedded within the body of fibrous material, wherein the first and second additive release components each have a maximum diameter between about 1.5 mm and about 2.5 mm and the first and second additive release components are separated by a distance of less than about 2.5 mm.
20 . The article of claim 19 , wherein the aerosol generating material comprises tobacco material.
21 . The article of claim 19 , wherein the article is substantially cylindrical in shape.
22 . The article of claim 21 , wherein the article has a circumference in the range of 15 mm to 23 mm.
23 . The article of claim 19 , further comprising an aerosol cooling section.
24 . The article of claim 23 , wherein the aerosol cooling section comprises a wall comprising an aerosol generating material.
25 . The article of claim 23 , wherein the aerosol cooling section comprises a cavity surrounded by a paper tube, and wherein said paper tube has a wall thickness of at least 325 microns and/or a permeability of at least 100 Coresta Units.
26 . The article of claim 19 , further comprising a hollow tubular element, wherein the hollow tubular element is arranged at an end of the article distal to the aerosol generating material, and wherein the hollow tubular element comprises a length of greater than about 10 mm or greater than about 12 mm.
27 . The article of claim 19 , wherein the aerosol generating material is wrapped by a wrapper having a level of permeability greater than about 2000 Coresta Units, and wherein the component comprises at least one ventilation area.
28 . The article of claim 19 , wherein the component is arranged downstream of the aerosol generating material and the component comprises at least one ventilation area, wherein a first air flow path is defined in which air drawn through the article at its downstream end passes through the aerosol generating material, and a second air flow path is defined in which air drawn through the article at its downstream end is drawn into the article through the at least one ventilation area in the component, and the resistance to draw of the second air flow path is greater than the resistance to draw of the first air flow path.

The article of claim 19 , wherein the component comprises at least one ventilation area, and wherein a level of ventilation provided by said at least one ventilation area is within the range of 45% to 65% of a volume of aerosol passing through the component, or between 40% and 60% of the volume of aerosol passing through the component.
30 . A system comprising an article comprising an aerosol generating material and a component comprising a body of fibrous material comprising first and second additive release components embedded within the body of fibrous material, wherein the first and second additive release components each have a maximum diameter between about 1.5 mm and about 2.5 mm and the first and second additive release components are separated by a distance of less than about 2.5 mm,
and a non-combustible aerosol provision device for heating the aerosol generating material of the article.
31 . The system of claim 30 , comprising an article according to claim 23 or 24 , wherein the article is configured such that when the article is inserted into the non-combustible aerosol provision device, the minimum distance between a heater of the non-combustible aerosol provision device and the aerosol cooling section is at least about 3 mm.
32 . A method of manufacturing a component for an article for use in an aerosol delivery system, the method comprising:
inserting first and second additive release components into a flow of fibrous material; and forming said flow of fibrous material into a body of fibrous material comprising said first and second additive release components embedded within the body, wherein the first and second additive release components each have a maximum diameter between about 1.5 mm and about 2.5 mm and the first and second additive release components are separated by a distance of less than about 2.5 mm.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
