Abstract
The present disclosure relates to methods, compositions and products for treating pain, and/or pain related symptoms, associated with dysmenorrhea in a subject. In certain embodiments, the present disclosure provides a method of treating pain, and/or pain related symptoms, associated with dysmenorrhea in a subject, the method comprising intrauterine and/or vaginal administration to the subject of an effective amount of an agent that reduces spinal glial activation and thereby treating the pain and/or the pain related symptoms in the subject. Other embodiments are also disclosed.

52 . An intrauterine device comprising a releasable agent that inhibits Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and that reduces activation of the innate immune system and/or reduces downstream signaling associated with activation.
53 . The device according to claim 52 , wherein the device is for treating a female subject suffering from, or susceptible to, a neuroinflammatory condition.
54 . The device according to claim 52 , wherein the agent reduces activation of a pattern recognition receptor.
55 . The device according to claim 52 , wherein the agent reduces activation of spinal glial cells.
56 . The device according to claim 52 , wherein the agent reduces activation of circulating immune cells and associated cytokines.
57 . The device according to claim 52 , wherein the device delivers a dose of the agent to the subject of less than 100 μg/kg/day.
58 . The device according to claim 52 , wherein the device provides long-term continuous release of the agent that reduces activation of the innate immune system.
59 . The device according to claim 52 , wherein the device further comprises a releasable sex hormone and/or an agent that modulates production and/or activity of a sex hormone.
60 . The device according to claim 59 , wherein the sex hormone comprises levonorgestrel.
