Multifunctional interactive beacon with mobile device interaction

Abstract

A system and method for adapting the behavior of an interactive presence based application on a mobile computing device associated with a user, by providing a plurality of multifunctional beacons, where the plurality of beacons provide a mesh wireless network, where each of the plurality of beacons provides a local wireless connection, providing an OMS backend for management of the plurality of beacons, where the OMS backend runs on a server, connecting by the mobile device to one or both of the mesh network and a local network, where the plurality of beacons report the connecting to the OMS backend, determining by the OMS backend the proximity of the mobile device to one or more of the plurality of beacons based on the reported connections, and adapting the behavior of the application and/or the beacons based on the determined proximity.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A beacon comprising:
 a. an enclosure including an upper part and a lower part;   b. an antenna housed in the enclosure;   c. a transceiver housed in the enclosure and in communication with the antenna; and   d. a first display mounted on an external surface of a lower part of the enclosure.   
     
     
         2 . The beacon of  claim 1 , further including a second display mounted on a lower part of the enclosure. 
     
     
         3 . The beacon of  claim 1 , wherein the first display is mounted at a height below the face height of an average adult. 
     
     
         4 . The beacon of  claim 1 , further including a push button proximal to the first display. 
     
     
         5 . The beacon of  claim 1 , wherein the first display includes a touch panel. 
     
     
         6 . The beacon of  claim 1 , further including a charging pad proximal to the first display. 
     
     
         7 . The beacon of  claim 1 , further including a charging port configured to charge an electric vehicle. 
     
     
         8 . The beacon of  claim 1 , wherein the transceiver is housed in the upper half of the enclosure. 
     
     
         9 . The beacon of  claim 1 , wherein the transceiver is housed in the lower half of the enclosure. 
     
     
         10 . The beacon of  claim 1 , wherein the enclosure includes racks inside the enclosure configured to mount telecommunications equipment therein. 
     
     
         11 . The beacon of  claim 1 , further including a light mounted proximal to the first display. 
     
     
         12 . The beacon of  claim 1 , further including a camera mounted proximal to the first display. 
     
     
         13 . The beacon of  claim 1 , further including an ecommerce panel mounted proximal to the first display. 
     
     
         14 . The beacon of  claim 1 , further including an environmental sensor mounted within the enclosure. 
     
     
         15 . The beacon of  claim 1 , further including a dome camera mounted proximal to the top of the enclosure. 
     
     
         16 . The beacon of  claim 1 , further including a status light mounted on top of the enclosure. 
     
     
         17 . The beacon of  claim 1 , wherein the enclosure is weatherproof. 
     
     
         18 . The beacon of  claim 1 , wherein the enclosure accommodates up to five cellular transceivers. 
     
     
         19 . The beacon of  claim 1 , wherein the enclosure is at least 15 ft tall. 
     
     
         20 . The beacon of  claim 1 , wherein the beacon is part of a network of beacons that are centrally monitored and managed.
