Abstract
A method of accessing a supplementary content in a digital broadcast receiver connected to an external input source, the method including receiving uncompressed data of a broadcast service from the external input source, the broadcast service being delivered based on either a Real-Time Object Delivery over Unidirectional Transport (ROUTE) protocol or an MPEG Media Transport (MMT) protocol, wherein the uncompressed data includes at least one of audio data or video data, extracting at least one watermark from the uncompressed data, making a request to a server, receiving a recovery file including an URL (Uniform Resource Locator) used to retrieve signaling files needed to access and present the supplementary content, wherein the recovery file further includes an identifier of a broadcast stream, a major channel number, a minor channel number, service ID for uniquely identifying the broadcast service within a scope of a broadcast area, and version of service information, retrieving the signaling files using the URL included in the recovery file, and presenting the supplementary content based on the signaling files, wherein timing information included in the recovery file is used to synchronize the supplementary content with the uncompressed data from the external input source.

receiving uncompressed data of a broadcast service from the external input source, the broadcast service being delivered based on either a Real-Time Object Delivery over Unidirectional Transport (ROUTE) protocol or an MPEG Media Transport (MMT) protocol, wherein the uncompressed data includes at least one of audio data or video data; extracting at least one watermark from the uncompressed data; making a request to a server; receiving a recovery file including an URL (Uniform Resource Locator) used to retrieve signaling files needed to access and present the supplementary content, wherein the recovery file further includes an identifier of a broadcast stream, a major channel number, a minor channel number, service ID for uniquely identifying the broadcast service within a scope of a broadcast area, and version of service information; retrieving the signaling files using the URL included in the recovery file; and presenting the supplementary content based on the signaling files, wherein timing information included in the recovery file is used to synchronize the supplementary content with the uncompressed data from the external input source.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
getting scheduled updates to the signaling files based on another URL of the next scheduled version of the signaling files.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the request are made using a server field and an interval field of the at least one watermark.
4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the major channel number is in the range 1 to 999, and the minor channel number is in the range 1 to 999.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the version of service information increments by one for each new version of service data.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the external input source includes a set top box (STB), and the digital broadcast receiver includes a television.
7 . A digital broadcast receiver for accessing a supplementary content, the digital broadcast receiver comprising:
a receiving module configured to receive uncompressed data of a broadcast service from the external input source, the broadcast service being delivered based on either a Real-Time Object Delivery over Unidirectional Transport (ROUTE) protocol or an MPEG Media Transport (MMT) protocol, wherein at least one watermark is extracted from the uncompressed data, wherein the uncompressed data includes at least one of audio data or video data; a network interface configured to: make a request to a server, receive a recovery file including an URL (Uniform Resource Locator) used to retrieve signaling files needed to access and present the supplementary content, wherein the recovery file further includes an identifier of a broadcast stream, a major channel number, a minor channel number, service ID for uniquely identifying the broadcast service within a scope of a broadcast area, and version of service information; retrieve the signaling files using the URL included in the recovery file; and a processor configured to present the supplementary content based on the signaling files, wherein timing information included in the recovery file is used to synchronize the supplementary content with the uncompressed data from the external input source.
8 . The digital broadcast receiver of claim 7 , wherein the network interface is further configured to get scheduled updates to the signaling files based on another URL of the next scheduled version of the signaling files.
9 . The digital broadcast receiver of claim 8 , wherein the network interface is further configured to make the request to the server using a server field and an interval field of the at least one watermark.
10 . The digital broadcast receiver of claim 9 , wherein the major channel number is in the range 1 to 999, and the minor channel number is in the range 1 to 999.
11 . The digital broadcast receiver of claim 10 , wherein the version of service information increments by one for each new version of service data.
