Abstract

A skate blade sharpening device having a housing that includes a top wall, side walls and a bottom wall that form a hollow chamber. The top wall has a lid separated by a front face and a back face. The front face extends from a first edge to the lid and the back face extends from a back edge to the lid. A groove extends from the front edge to the back edge along the bottom wall. Disposed within the hollow chamber of the housing is a motor, at least one battery, a grinding wheel, at least one magnet, a dust catching compartment, and a micro-computer.

What is claimed is:

. A skate blade sharpening device, comprising:
a housing having a top wall, side walls and bottom wall that form a hollow chamber; the top wall having a lid separated by a front face and a back face wherein the front face extends from a front edge to the lid and the back face extends from a back edge to the lid; a groove extending from the front edge to the back edge along the bottom wall; and disposed within the hollow chamber of the housing is a motor, at least one battery, a grinding wheel, at least one magnet, a dust catching compartment, and a micro-computer wherein the grinding wheel partially extends into the groove.

. The device of claim 1 wherein the front and back face are arcuate and convex in relation to the lid which is inverted and concave.

. The device of claim 1 wherein a pair of parallel spaced detents are positioned adjacent the front edge on the front face and the back edge on the back face.

. The device of claim 3 wherein adjacent the lid on the front face is an on/off switch.

. The device of claim 4 wherein between the pair of parallel spaced detents and the on/off switch on the front face is an opening that aligns with a display screen.

. The device of claim 3 wherein positioned between the pair of parallel spaced detents and the lid on the back face is a second lid.

. The device of claim 1 wherein the groove has a coating.

. The device of claim 1 wherein the grinding wheel is centered between the front edge and the back edge.

. The device of claim 1 wherein the motor is connected to the grinding wheel and the motor is spring biased against the groove by a spring that extends between a side wall and the motor.

. The device of claim 1 wherein the at least one battery is connected to the motor, the display screen and the micro-computer and the on/off switch is connected to the micro-computer.

. The device of claim 1 wherein the at least one magnet is positioned adjacent the dust catching compartment which is in communication with the groove.

. The device of claim 1 further comprising a skate blade adapter attached to the housing.

. The device of claim 12 wherein the skate blade adapter has a first end, a second end, and an elongated section that extends between the first end and the second end wherein the first end and the second end are configured to connect to the pair of parallel spaced detents on the front and the back face.

. The device of claim 13 wherein the first end and the second end are perpendicular to the elongated section.

. The device of claim 13 wherein the elongated section has a groove that aligns with the groove of the housing.

. The device of claim 15 wherein along a portion of an edge of the groove of the elongated section there are walls that extend upwardly from the adapter and are inserted into the grove of the housing.
