Frame rate conversion
Abstract
The disclosed method includes accessing video content encoded at a specified frame rate, and determining a refresh rate for an electronic display on which the video content is to be presented. The method next includes specifying a time interval for the video content over which frame rate conversion is to be applied to synchronize the video content frame rate with the electronic display refresh rate. The method also includes presenting the video content on the electronic display where the playback speed is adjusted for a first part of the interval. At this adjusted speed, the interval is played back using original video frames and multiple frame duplications. The presenting also adjusts playback speed of a second part of the interval. At the adjusted speed, the interval is played back using the original frames and a different number of frame duplications. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
accessing video content that includes video frames encoded at a specified frame rate; synchronizing the frame rate of the video content with a specified refresh rate of an electronic display, wherein the synchronizing includes altering playback speed of the video content based on the type of video frames that are to be presented; and presenting the synchronized video content on the electronic display.
2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the encoded frame rate of the video content defines an original frame duration for each frame of the video content.
3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein altering playback speed of the video content based on the type of video frames being presented includes:
increasing playback speed for a first portion of video content that includes at least one video frame, such that video frames being played back at the increased playback speed are displayed for a shorter frame duration than the original frame duration defined by the encoded frame rate; and decreasing playback speed of a second, subsequent portion of video content that includes at least one different video frame, such that video frames being played back at the reduced playback speed are displayed for a longer frame duration than the original frame duration defined by the encoded frame rate.
4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the type of video frames being presented includes video frames with at least a specified amount of motion in the content of the video frames.
5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the type of video frames being presented includes video frames with a specified effect in the content of the video frames.
6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the type of video frames being presented includes video frames having intervals of video content that include one or more first order frame duplications.
7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , wherein the video frames having intervals of video content that include one or more first order frame duplications are automatically played back at a specified playback speed.
8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the type of video frames being presented includes video frames having intervals of video content that include one or more second order frame duplications.
9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the video frames having intervals of video content that include one or more second order frame duplications are automatically played back at a different specified playback speed.
10 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the frame rate of the video content is synchronized with the specified refresh rate of the electronic display over a specified time interval.
11 . The computer-implemented method of claim 10 , wherein increasing the playback speed for a first portion of video content comprises increasing the playback speed for the first portion of video content over the specified time interval.
12 . The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein the first portion of video content is played back at an increased playback speed in which an increased number of frames per second are played back for at least a portion of the specified time interval using original video frames.
13 . The computer-implemented method of claim 10 , wherein decreasing the playback speed for a second portion of video content comprises decreasing the playback speed for the second portion of video content over the specified time interval.
14 . The computer-implemented method of claim 13 , wherein the second portion of video content is played back at a decreased playback speed in which a decreased number of frames per second are played back for at least a portion of the specified time interval using original video frames and a sequence of frame duplications.
15 . The computer-implemented method of claim 14 , wherein the number of duplicated frames in the sequence of frame duplications is repeated at a specified interval.
16 . A system comprising:
at least one physical processor; and physical memory comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the physical processor, cause the physical processor to: access video content that includes video frames encoded at a specified frame rate; synchronize the frame rate of the video content with a specified refresh rate of an electronic display, wherein the synchronizing includes altering playback speed of the video content based on the type of video frames that are to be presented; and present the synchronized video content on the electronic display.
17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein increasing or decreasing playback speed comprises altering a presentation time stamp associated with the video content.
18 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the frame rate of the video content is synchronized with the specified refresh rate of the electronic display over a specified time interval, and wherein the playback speed for each portion of the specified time interval of video content is stored in a lookup table.
19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the specified interval of video content is played back on the electronic display according to playback information indicated in the lookup table.
20 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising one or more computer-executable instructions that, when executed by at least one processor of a computing device, cause the computing device to:
access video content that includes video frames encoded at a specified frame rate; synchronize the frame rate of the video content with a specified refresh rate of an electronic display, wherein the synchronizing includes altering playback speed of the video content based on the type of video frames that are to be presented; and present the synchronized video content on the electronic display.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
