Abstract

A filter component for an aerosol-generating article includes a core including filtration material wrapped around by a first wrapper, wherein the first wrapper is air impermeable and includes a plurality of corrugations of sinusoidal waveform extending longitudinally along a sinuous air flow path from and/or to a longitudinal end of the filter component at least.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A filter for an aerosol-generating article comprising:
a first filter component having a core comprising filtration material wrapped around by a first wrapper, wherein the first wrapper is air impermeable and comprises a plurality of corrugations of sinusoidal waveform extending longitudinally along a sinuous air flow path from and/or to a longitudinal end of the first filter component at least; and a second filter component coaxially arranged longitudinally at an end of the first filter component, and maintained therewith with an outer wrapper wrapped around both the first and second filter components.

2 . The filter of claim 1 , wherein the first filter component further comprises a second wrapper configured to wrap around the first wrapper such that the plurality of corrugations define channels between the first wrapper and the second wrapper.

3 . The filter of claim 2 , wherein the second wrapper comprises perforations in fluid communication with the channels to create an air flow through the channels by drawing on the filter component.

4 . The filter of claim 1 , wherein a wave length of the sinusoidal waveform is in a range of 1 mm to 3 mm.

5 . The filter of claim 1 , wherein an amplitude of the sinusoidal waveform is in a range of 0.5 mm to 2 mm.

6 . The filter of claim 1 , wherein the first wrapper comprises plastic material.

7 . The filter of claim 1 , wherein the first wrapper has Modulus of Elasticity in a range of 1.09 to 2.28 GPa.

8 . The filter of claim 1 , wherein the first wrapper has Elongation at Break in a range of 2.5 to 24%.

9 . The filter of claim 1 , wherein the second filter component is at least partially hollow along a longitudinal axis of the second filter component.

10 . An aerosol-generating article comprising a charge of aerosol-generating substrate and the filter according to claim 1 attached at an end thereof such that the first filter component is abutting against said charge of the aerosol-generating substrate.

11 . The aerosol-generating article of claim 10 , further comprising a paper tube disposed between the first filter component and the second filter component.

12 . The aerosol-generating article of claim 10 , further comprising a paper tube disposed between the aerosol-generating substrate and the second filter component.

13 . A method of forming a filter for an aerosol-generating article, the method comprising:
forming a first filter component with a plurality of corrugations of sinusoidal waveform extending longitudinally at least partly along a sinuous air flow path on an air impermeable first wrapper from an end thereof; providing a core of filtration material in the first filter component; wrapping the first wrapper around the core; forming a second filter component coaxially arranged longitudinally at an end of the first filter component; and wrapping an outer wrapper around both the first and second filter components to maintain the first and second filter components together.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the plurality of corrugations are formed by pressing and heating the first wrapper between two embossing rollers.

15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein a second wrapper is wrapped around the first wrapper such that the plurality of corrugations define air channels between the first wrapper and the second wrapper.

16 . The filter of claim 1 , wherein the first wrapper comprises polylactic acid.
