Abstract

The invention provides for methods for treating Alzheimer's Disease in a subject by reducing ER-MAM localized APP-C99.

         14 . A method of treating Alzheimer's Disease in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering to the subject a composition comprising an effective amount of an ADRB2 agonist, phenylbutyric acid (PBA), 4-hydroxynonenal, GSK561679, Corticorelin, Xerecept, 12-O tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA), auraptene, PD98059, PD0325901, U0126, Trametinib, Ezetimibe, myriocin, a SPT inhibitor, a SMase inhibitor, desipramine, zoledronic acid, GW4869, altenusin, cambinol, atorvastatin, a PTK2 inhibitor, an ABCA2 inhibitor, a SREBP inhibitor, a miR33a/b inhibitor, a CypD inhibitor, or U18666a, or a BACE1 inhibitor or antagonist. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the composition comprises an ADRB2 agonist. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the ADRB2 agonist is isoproterenol. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the ADRB2 agonist is clenbuterol. 
     
     
         18 . The method of any one of  claims 14 - 17 , wherein the subject has a higher ratio of C99 to total Aβ in cells of the subject compared to the ratio of C99 to total Aβ in cells of a subject that does not have Alzheimer's Disease. 
     
     
         19 . A method of treating Alzheimer's Disease in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering to the subject a γ-secretase activator or agonist. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the subject has a higher ratio of C99 to total Aβ in cells of the subject compared to the ratio of C99 to total Aβ in cells of a subject that does not have Alzheimer's Disease.
