Laminoplasty plates, systems, and devices, and methods relating to the same
Abstract
Disclosed are laminoplasty devices and systems, kits that include such laminoplasty devices or systems or components thereof; and methods of assembling and using such laminoplasty devices and systems. In particular, articulating laminoplasty devices are provided that allow lamina plates to be adjusted angularly and transitionally with respect to a cage connecting the lamina plates. Also provided are laminoplasty plates that are configured so as to be assembled with a bone graft housing, and which provide an opening configured to facilitate bone graft insertion into the housing. Further provided are expandable laminoplasty fixation systems that include a lateral mass plate, a lamina plate and a set screw that when screwed and unscrewed, allows one to contract and expand the plates with respect to one another.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A laminoplasty plate, comprising:
a first subassembly with a first medial portion and a first lateral portion; a second subassembly with a second medial portion and a second lateral portion, wherein each of the first subassembly and the second subassembly have a pattern of screw holes configured to accept bone screws that attach the first subassembly to a lateral mass of a vertebral body and the second subassembly to the lamina of the vertebral body.
2 . The laminoplasty plate of claim 1 , wherein the screw holes are inline with each other.
3 . The laminoplasty plate of claim 1 , wherein the first medial portion and the second medial portion are configured to slidably mate to couple the first subassembly to the second subassembly.
4 . The laminoplasty plate of claim 3 , wherein the first subassembly and the second subassembly are coupled to mate via dovetail features on the first medial portion and the second medial portion.
5 . The laminoplasty plate of claim 4 , wherein the dovetail features extend perpendicular to a length of the laminoplasty plate to provide continuous expansion in the cephalad/caudal directions once the laminoplasty plate in implanted.
6 . The laminoplasty plate of claim 5 , further comprising a pin extending from the first subassembly into a slot in the second subassembly.
7 . The laminoplasty plate of claim 6 , wherein the first subassembly and the second subassembly are configured to be adjust to be offset from one another.
8 . The laminoplasty plate of claim 7 , wherein the pin and the slot prevent the laminoplasty plate to being overly adjusted when the first subassembly and the second subassembly are offset.
9 . The laminoplasty plate of claim 8 , wherein each of the first subassembly and the second subassembly have a kickstand.
10 . The laminoplasty plate of claim 1 , further comprising a cam set screw to lock the first subassembly relative to the second subassembly in a desired offset configuration.
11 . A method of performing a laminoplasty surgical procedure using a laminoplasty plate, comprising:
providing the laminoplasty plate, wherein the laminoplasty plate includes:
a first subassembly with a first medial portion and a first lateral portion;
a second subassembly with a second medial portion and a second lateral portion,
wherein each of the first subassembly and the second subassembly have a pattern of screw holes configured to accept bone screws that attach the first subassembly to a lateral mass of a vertebral body and the second subassembly to the lamina of the vertebral body,
performing an osteotomy on a vertebral body; and implanting the first subassembly and the second subassembly to the vertebral body.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the screw holes are inline with each other.
13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the first medial portion and the second medial portion are configured to slidably mate to couple the first subassembly to the second subassembly.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the first subassembly and the second subassembly are coupled to mate via dovetail features on the first medial portion and the second medial portion.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the dovetail features extend perpendicular to a length of the laminoplasty plate to provide continuous expansion in the cephalad/caudal directions once the laminoplasty plate in implanted.
16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the laminoplasty plate further includes a pin extending from the first subassembly into a slot in the second subassembly.
17 . The laminoplasty plate of claim 16 , wherein the first subassembly and the second subassembly are configured to be adjust to be offset from one another.
18 . The laminoplasty plate of claim 17 , wherein the pin and the slot prevent the laminoplasty plate to being overly adjusted when the first subassembly and the second subassembly are offset.
19 . The laminoplasty plate of claim 18 , wherein each of the first subassembly and the second subassembly have a kickstand.
20 . The laminoplasty plate of claim 11 , wherein the laminoplasty plate further includes a cam set screw to lock the first subassembly relative to the second subassembly in a desired offset configuration.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
