Abstract
A method is described for generating and transmitting a frame by a station. The method includes generating a frame that includes a signaling field and a data field, wherein the signaling field includes a midamble indication that indicates a midamble periodicity used in the data field of the frame and wirelessly transmitting the frame to a recipient.

generating a frame that includes a signaling field and a data field, wherein the signaling field includes a midamble indication that indicates a midamble periodicity used in the data field of the frame; and wirelessly transmitting the frame to a recipient.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein when the midamble indication has a first value a midamble is inserted in the data field of the frame after four orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein when the midamble indication has a second value a midamble is inserted in the data field of the frame after eight OFDM symbols.
4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein when the midamble indication has a third value a midamble is inserted in the data field of the frame after sixteen OFDM symbols.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the signaling field further includes a midamble size indication that indicates a midamble size used in the data field of the frame.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein when the midamble size indication has a first value an uncompressed midamble is used in the data field of the frame.
7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein when the midamble size indication has a second value a 2× compressed midamble is used in the data field of the frame.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein when the midamble size indication has a third value a 1× compressed midamble is used in the data field of the frame.
9 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the midamble size indication is also used to indicate whether a long training field of the frame is compressed or uncompressed.
10 . A station configured to operate in a wireless network, the station comprising:
a memory device storing a set of instructions; and a processor coupled to the memory device, wherein the set of instructions when executed by the processor cause the station to:
generate a frame that includes a signaling field and a data field, wherein the signaling field includes a midamble indication that indicates a midamble periodicity used in the data field of the frame and
wirelessly transmit the frame to a recipient.
11 . The station of claim 10 , wherein when the midamble indication has a first value a midamble is inserted in the data field of the frame after four orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols.
12 . The station of claim 11 , wherein when the midamble indication has a second value a midamble is inserted in the data field of the frame after eight OFDM symbols.
13 . The station of claim 12 , wherein when the midamble indication has a third value a midamble is inserted in the data field of the frame after sixteen OFDM symbols.
13 . A non-transitory machine readable medium that stores instructions, which when executed by a processor of a station, cause the station to:
generate a frame that includes a signaling field and a data field, wherein the signaling field includes a midamble indication that indicates a midamble periodicity used in the data field of the frame; and wirelessly transmit the frame to a recipient.
14 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 13 , wherein when the midamble indication has a first value a midamble is inserted in the data field of the frame after four orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols.
15 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 14 , wherein when the midamble indication has a second value a midamble is inserted in the data field of the frame after eight OFDM symbols.
16 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 15 , wherein when the midamble indication has a third value a midamble is inserted in the data field of the frame after sixteen OFDM symbols.
17 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the signaling field further includes a midamble size indication that indicates a midamble size used in the data field of the frame.
18 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 17 , wherein when the midamble size indication has a first value an uncompressed midamble is used in the data field of the frame.
19 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 18 , wherein when the midamble size indication has a second value a 2× compressed midamble is used in the data field of the frame.
