Systems and methods for determining and providing a display of a plurality of wellness scores for patients with regard to a medical condition and/or a medical treatment

Abstract

An interface displaying a plurality of previously determined wellness scores for a plurality of patients may be generated and provided to a display device. The patients may each be associated with a patient characteristic, a treatment, and/or a diagnosis. In some instances, the patients may be associated with a particular treatment provider or group of treatment providers and plurality of previously determined wellness scores may enable a treatment provider to quickly view (via the interface) the current wellness of patients under his or her care. In other instances, the plurality of previously determined wellness scores may be associated with a diagnosis and a corresponding treatment so that the interface provides the wellness scores for patients who have undergone the treatment and a viewer may observe how the treatment impacted the wellness scores for the patients.

We claim: 
     
         1 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
 facilitating a pre-treatment provision of a medical questionnaire to a patient before the patient is treated for a medical condition with a treatment, the questionnaire being associated with one or more scoring metrics stored in a scoring-metrics database and indexed to the medical symptom questionnaire;   receiving a pre-treatment set of responses to the medical questionnaire from the patient before the treatment is performed;   accessing the scoring-metrics database to retrieve the one or more scoring metrics indexed to the medical questionnaire;   evaluating the pre-treatment set of responses using the retrieved one or more scoring metrics;   determining a pre-treatment score for the medical condition based on the evaluation of the pre-treatment set of responses;   facilitating provision of the pre-treatment score to the patient;   facilitating a post-treatment provision of the medical questionnaire to the patient following performance of the treatment;   receiving a post-treatment set of responses to the medical questionnaire from the patient following performance of the treatment;   accessing the scoring-metrics database to retrieve the one or more scoring metrics indexed to the medical questionnaire;   evaluating the post-treatment set of responses using the retrieved one or more scoring metrics;   determining a post-treatment score for the medical condition based on the evaluation of the post-treatment set of responses; and   facilitating provision of the post-treatment score to the patient.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining an improvement score for the patient using the pre-treatment score and the post-treatment score; and   facilitating provision of the improvement score to the patient.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the medical questionnaire is provided to each of a plurality of patients and responses to the medical questionnaire are received from at least some of the plurality of patients, the method further comprising:
 creating a disease-specific registry of responses to the medical questionnaires received from the plurality of patients.   
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein provision of at least one of the pre-treatment score and the post-treatment score serves as an incentive for the patient to complete the medical questionnaire. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining whether the pre-treatment set of responses completely answers the medical symptom questionnaire, wherein provision of the pre-treatment score is delayed until the pre-treatment set of responses completely answers the medical symptom questionnaire.   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , further comprising:
 facilitating provision of a prompt to the patient responsively to a determination that the pre-treatment set of responses does not completely answer the medical symptom questionnaire, the prompt encouraging the patient to complete the medical symptom questionnaire.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining whether the post-treatment set of responses completely answers the medical questionnaire, wherein provision of the pre-treatment score is delayed until the post-treatment set of responses completely answers the medical symptom questionnaire.   
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 7 , further comprising:
 facilitating provision of a prompt to the patient responsively to a determination that the post-treatment set of responses does not completely answer the medical symptom questionnaire, the prompt encouraging the patient to complete the medical symptom questionnaire.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the medical questionnaire is at least one of a medical symptom questionnaire, a disease-specific medical symptom questionnaire, a global medical symptom questionnaire, and a patient reported outcome questionnaire. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein facilitating provision of the post-treatment score to the patient is done without facilitation by a doctor, nurse, researcher, clinician or treatment facility administrator. 
     
     
         11 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining a patient compliance question relating to the patient's compliance with post-treatment instructions for recovering from the treatment;   facilitating provision of the patient compliance question to the patient;   receiving a response to the patient compliance question from the patient; and   storing the received response, the storage of the response including indexing the received response to at least one of the treatment provided to the patient, a treatment provider for the patient, a treatment facility used by the patient, patient characteristics, and an outcome of the treatment.   
     
     
         12 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining a patient compliance question relating to the patient's compliance with pre-treatment instructions for preparing for the treatment;   facilitating provision of the patient compliance question to the patient before the patient is treated for the medical condition with the treatment;   receiving a response to the patient compliance question from the patient; and   storing the received response, the storage of the response including indexing the received response to at least one of the patient, the treatment provided to the patient, a treatment provider for the patient, a treatment facility used by the patient, patient characteristics, and an outcome of the treatment.   
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 facilitating provision of at least one of the pre-treatment set of responses, the pre-treatment score, the post-treatment set of responses, and the post-treatment score to a healthcare provider for the patient.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 facilitating provision of at least one of the pre-treatment set of responses, the pre-treatment score, the post-treatment set of responses, and the post-treatment score to a healthcare administrator.   
     
     
         15 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 generating a notification for a healthcare provider responsively to a determination that the post-treatment score is below a minimum threshold; and   facilitating provision of the notification to the healthcare provider.   
     
     
         16 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 14 , wherein the notification includes contact information for the patient. 
     
     
         17 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 receiving an indication of a scheduling of the treatment for the patient prior to facilitating the pre-treatment provision of a medical questionnaire;   accessing a database storing a plurality of medical questionnaires, each medical questionnaire of the plurality of medical questionnaires being indexed to a treatment;   selecting the medical symptom questionnaire indexed to the scheduled treatment from the plurality of medical symptom questionnaires for provision to the patient.   
     
     
         18 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 accessing an electronic medical record for the patient; and   extracting information about the patient from the accessed electronic medical record, the determination of the post-treatment score further using the extracted information.   
     
     
         19 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 storing at least one of the pre-treatment set of responses and the post-treatment set of responses in a database, the storage including indexing the at least one pre-treatment set of responses and the at least one post-treatment set of responses to at least one of the treatment provided to the patient, a treatment provider for the patient, a treatment facility used by the patient, patient characteristics, and an outcome of the treatment.   
     
     
         20 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , wherein the patient is provided with the medical questionnaire on a personal electronic device. 
     
     
         21 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , wherein the patient is provided with the medical questionnaire on a personal electronic device operated by the patient outside of a treatment facility. 
     
     
         22 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining a patient compliance question relating to the patient's compliance with post-treatment instructions for recovering from the treatment;   facilitating provision of the patient compliance question to the patient;   receiving a response to the patient compliance question; and   storing the received response, the storage of the response including indexing the received response to at least one of the treatment provided to the patient, a treatment provider for the patient, a treatment facility used by the patient, patient characteristics, and an outcome of the treatment.   
     
     
         23 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , wherein the medical questionnaire provided before the patient is treated for a medical condition is different from the medical questionnaire provided following performance of the treatment. 
     
     
         24 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , wherein the medical questionnaire uses computerized adaptive testing. 
     
     
         25 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 upon an expiration of a predetermined time period measured from at least one of treatment administration and receipt of the post-treatment set of responses, facilitating a subsequent provision of the medical questionnaire to the patient;   receiving a subsequent post-treatment set of responses to the medical questionnaire from the patient;   accessing the scoring-metrics database to retrieve one or more scoring metrics indexed to the medical questionnaire;   evaluating the subsequent post-treatment set of responses using the retrieved one or more scoring metrics;   determining a subsequent post-treatment score for the medical condition based on the evaluation of the subsequent post-treatment set of responses;   facilitating provision of the subsequent post-treatment score to the patient.   
     
     
         26 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
 facilitating a post-treatment provision of a medical questionnaire to a patient after the patient is treated for a medical condition with a treatment, the questionnaire being associated with one or more scoring metrics stored in a scoring-metrics database and indexed to the medical questionnaire;   receiving a post-treatment set of responses to the medical questionnaire from the patient following performance of the treatment;   accessing the scoring-metrics database to retrieve the one or more scoring metrics indexed to the medical questionnaire;   evaluating the post-treatment set of responses using the retrieved one or more scoring metrics;   determining a post-treatment score for the medical condition based on the evaluation of the post-treatment set of responses; and   facilitating provision of the post-treatment score to the patient.   
     
     
         27 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
 for each of a plurality of patients:
 facilitating a pre-treatment provision of a medical questionnaire to a patient before the patient is treated for a medical condition with a treatment, the medical questionnaire being associated with one or more scoring metrics stored in a scoring-metrics database and indexed to the medical questionnaire; 
 receiving a pre-treatment set of responses to the medical questionnaire from the patient before the treatment is performed; 
 accessing the scoring-metrics database to retrieve the one or more scoring metrics indexed to the medical questionnaire; 
 evaluating the pre-treatment set of responses using the retrieved one or more scoring metrics; 
 determining a pre-treatment score for the medical condition based on the evaluation of the pre-treatment set of responses; 
 facilitating provision of the pre-treatment score to the patient; 
 facilitating a post-treatment provision of the medical questionnaire to the patient following performance of the treatment; 
 receiving a post-treatment set of responses to the medical questionnaire from the patient following performance of the treatment; 
 accessing the scoring-metrics database to retrieve the one or more scoring metrics indexed to the medical questionnaire; 
 evaluating the post-treatment set of responses using the retrieved one or more scoring metrics; 
 determining a post-treatment score for the medical condition based on the evaluation of the post-treatment set of responses; and 
 facilitating provision of the post-treatment score to the patient; and 
   creating a medical-condition-specific registry of information by indexing at least one of the received pre-treatment set of responses, the determined pre-treatment scores, the received post-treatment set of responses, and the determined post-treatment score of responses received from the plurality of patients to the medical condition.   
     
     
         28 . The method of  claim 26 , further comprising:
 receiving one or more patient characteristics for at least some of the patients of the plurality of patients, the creating of the medical-condition-specific registry further including indexing the received patient characteristics to the medical condition.   
     
     
         29 . The method of  claim 26 , further comprising:
 accessing an electronic medical record for the patient; and   extracting one or more patient characteristics for at least some of the patients of the plurality of patients, the creating of the medical-condition-specific registry further including indexing the extracted one or more patient characteristics to the medical condition.   
     
     
         30 . The method of  claim 26 , wherein:
 facilitating a post-treatment provision of the medical questionnaire to the patient following performance of the treatment at one or more time intervals;   receiving a post-treatment set of responses to the medical questionnaire from the patient following performance of the treatment at one or more time intervals;   accessing the scoring-metrics database to retrieve the one or more scoring metrics indexed to the medical questionnaire at one or more time intervals;   evaluating the post-treatment set of responses using the retrieved one or more scoring metrics at one or more time intervals;   determining a post-treatment score or scores for the medical condition based on the evaluation of the post-treatment set of responses; and   facilitating provision of the post-treatment score to the patient at one or more time intervals.
