Abstract
Disinfecting compositions containing hypochlorous acid and acetic acid are useful for treating biofilms in or on tissue, including treating and regulating the aerodigestive tract. The compositions are useful for treating a variety of types of tissue, both on the surface on beneath the surface of tissue. Compositions are provided having various concentrations for different types of infections. Compositions may be provided in droplet, aerosol, gel, or powder form.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
. A composition for aerodigestive administration, the composition comprising hypochlorous acid, acetic acid and an acceptable carrier, adjuvant, or diluent in a substantially air-free container.
. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said carrier is water.
. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said carrier is an electrolyte composition.
. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said composition is formulated so as to be aerosolized upon use.
. The composition of claim 4 , wherein said composition is a nasal spray.
. The composition of claim 5 , wherein said carrier is saline.
. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is substantially free of chlorine gas.
. The nasal spray composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is buffered and has a pH approximately equal to a pKa of acetic acid.
. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said composition is formulated in an enema.
. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said composition is formulated with an antibiotic.
. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said composition is formulated with an antiviral.
. A method for treating a patient's aerodigestive tract, the method comprising applying a composition according to claim 1 to said aerodigestive tract.
. The method of claim 12 , wherein said applying step comprises introducing a pharmaceutical dose to said patient.
. The method of claim 12 , wherein said applying step comprises oral introduction of the composition of claim 1 .
. The method of claim 14 , wherein said oral introduction comprises a beverage comprising the composition of claim 1 .
. The method of claim 12 , wherein said applying step comprises intranasal presentation of a composition of claim 1 .
. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the acetic acid is present in an amount from about 0.25% to about 2.0% and the hypochlorous acid is present in a concentration from about 50 ppm to about 500 ppm.
. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the hypochlorous acid is present in a concentration sufficient to modulate a toxic property of the acetic acid.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
