Abstract

To facilitate signal alignment for an integrated access backhaul (IAB) node, a system can determine a subset of beams that can be used for communication transmissions. Based on a signal quality associated with the subset of beams, the system can indicate that the subset of beams is to be used for the communication transmission. Consequently, the subset of the beams or another subset of the subset of the beams can be utilized for the communication transmission based on the signal quality of the beams.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method, comprising:
 grouping, by network equipment comprising a processor, beams into groups of beams;   determining, by the network equipment, based on an indication from a user equipment, a group of beams of the groups of beams that satisfies a defined criterion; and   in response to determining that a beam management procedure is to be executed, initiating, by the network equipment, a beam alignment using the group of beams.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the groups of beams are respectively associated with different antenna panels. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the groups of beams are respectively associated with different effective angle directions. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the groups of beams are respectively associated with different beam widths. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the groups of beams are respectively associated with different reference signals. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the groups of beams are respectively associated with different interference hypotheses. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the defined criterion comprises a beam signal quality criterion. 
     
     
         8 . An integrated access backhaul device, comprising:
 a processor; and   a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
 grouping reception beams into groups of reception beams; 
 selecting, based on feedback from a user equipment, a group of reception beams from the groups of reception beams that satisfies a defined criterion; and 
 in response to triggering a beam management procedure, executing a transmission beam alignment using the group of reception beams. 
   
     
     
         9 . The integrated access backhaul device of  claim 8 , wherein the groups of reception beams are respectively associated with different antenna panels. 
     
     
         10 . The integrated access backhaul device of  claim 8 , wherein the groups of reception beams are respectively associated with different effective angle directions. 
     
     
         11 . The integrated access backhaul device of  claim 8 , wherein the groups of reception beams are respectively associated with different beam widths. 
     
     
         12 . The integrated access backhaul device of  claim 8 , wherein the groups of reception beams are respectively associated with different reference signals. 
     
     
         13 . The integrated access backhaul device of  claim 8 , wherein the groups of reception beams are respectively associated with different interference hypotheses. 
     
     
         14 . The integrated access backhaul device of  claim 8 , wherein the defined criterion is a function of an interference metric associated with the groups. 
     
     
         15 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor a relay node device, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
 grouping beams into groups of beams;   selecting, based on feedback from a mobile device, a group of beams from the groups of beams that satisfies a defined signal quality criterion; and   in response to initiating a beam management procedure, performing a transmission beam alignment using the group of beams.   
     
     
         16 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein the groups of beams are respectively associated with different antenna panels. 
     
     
         17 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein the groups of beams are respectively associated with different effective angle directions. 
     
     
         18 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein the groups of beams are respectively associated with different beam widths. 
     
     
         19 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein the groups of beams are respectively associated with different reference signals. 
     
     
         20 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein the groups of beams are respectively associated with at least one of different interfering nodes or groups of interfering nodes.
