Abstract

Given a user preference, a system will score a geographic location based on a number of days the user is estimated to be comfortable, such as in a year. The user specifies metrics for comfort such as: temperature range, humidity level and days of: sunshine, rain, and snow that are comfortable or acceptable. In general, the user is presented with a slider that is used to show how important a climate metric is to the user. The system provides specific or detailed sliders, in relation to the importance for the climate metrics. For example, the sliders include specifics about: rain fall, snow, humidity, sunshine, etc. The climate metrics are used to generate scores for each location. The score ranks the locations for the user. The ranking and/or score may be displayed as information on a graphical user interface, such as a display or a mobile device.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for determining a climate score for a geographic location according to a user preference, the method comprising:
 receiving, from a user, one or more advanced climate metrics for climate conditions that the user finds comfortable, wherein the user can select a combination of advanced climate metrics and change the combination;   determining for the geographic location a number of days per year the user will be comfortable based at least partially on the one or more advanced climate metrics;   calculating a climate score for the geographic location based at least partially on the number of days per year the user will be comfortable; and   transmitting climate score for presentation to the user on a graphical user interface, wherein the climate score being displayed in one or more regions of the graphical user interface is based on the number of days per year that the user has defined will be comfortable.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more advanced climate metrics include at least one of range of temperatures the user is comfortable, range of humidity the user is comfortable, range of wind the user is comfortable, maximum number of cloudy days the user will be comfortable with, maximum number of rainy days the user will be comfortable with, maximum number of snow-covered days the user to will comfortable with, and number of hours of daylight per day that will be comfortable to the user. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein specifying, by the user, the one or more advanced climate metrics further comprises removing, by the user, at least one advanced climate metrics that does not apply to the user's comfort. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the one or more advanced climate metrics include one or more respective sliders for the user to specify one or more advanced climate metrics. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more advanced climate metrics each include a date range corresponding to each of the one or more advanced climate metrics. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the climate score is calculated at least partially based on the ratio of the number of days per year the user will be comfortable and the total number of days in a year. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the number of days per year the user will be comfortable includes a correlation factor for at least one of days with rain and at least one of the days with high humidity, and a plurality of days with comfortable temperature and at least one of the days with snow. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein when days of rain per year is calculated, rainfall is a constant rate. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein days of rain per year is calculated at least partially as the ratio of total yearly rainfall to rain fall rate over a time period. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein when days of rain per year is estimated, days of rain per year is estimated based at least partially on average rain time for a geographic region. 
     
     
         11 . A system including a process and memory, wherein the memory stores code that is executed by the processor to cause the system to:
 receive, from a user, one or more advanced climate metrics for climate that the user finds comfortable;   determine for a geographic location a number of days per year that the user will be comfortable based at least partially on the one or more advanced climate metrics provided by the user; and   calculate a climate score for the geographic location based at least partially on the number of days per year the user will be comfortable.   
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 11  wherein the one or more advanced climate metrics include at least one of range of temperatures the user is comfortable, range of humidity the user is comfortable, range of wind the user is comfortable, maximum number of cloudy days the user will be comfortable with, maximum number of rainy days the user will be comfortable with, maximum number of snow-covered days the user to will comfortable with, and number of hours of daylight per day the user will be comfortable with. 
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 12 , wherein specifying, by the user, the one or more advanced climate metrics further comprises removing, by the user, at least one advanced climate metrics that does not apply to the user's comfort preference. 
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 12 , wherein the one or more advanced climate metrics include one or more respective sliders, which are adjusted by the user, to specify one or more advanced climate metrics. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the one or more advanced climate metrics each include a date range corresponding to each of the one or more advanced climate metrics. 
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the climate score is calculated at least partially based on the ratio of the number of days per year the user will be comfortable to the total number of days in a year. 
     
     
         17 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the number of days per year the user will be comfortable includes a correlation factor for at least one of days with rain and at least one of the days with high humidity, and days with comfortable temperature and at least one of the days with snow. 
     
     
         18 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein when days of rain per year is calculated, rainfall is a constant rate. 
     
     
         19 . The system of  claim 18 , wherein days of rain per year is calculated at least partially as the ratio of total yearly rainfall to rain fall rate over a time period. 
     
     
         20 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein when days of rain per year is estimated, days of rain per year is estimated based at least partially on average rain time for a geographic region.
